Have you seen what happened to that BMW at 1300 WHP?? Should we all label BMW M as unreliable? (bTW, after 22 years of BMWs and literally ZERO issues, I have jumped to the P side…)

I was too young to register what a 4Runner really was until the late 90s but this latest design is pandering hard to my nostalgia. The X5 will forever have a place in my heart but if I ever need for a boxy SUV I would take this 4Runner or a GX550 hands down.

I would like to see the reliability data on these new engines though. I've been wondering how they've been faring in the other trucks (Sequoia, Tundra, Tacoma, etc.)

The 4Runner is the one that started this whole SUV craziness....almost every car on the road is SUV/crossover.

If it's not underpowered with crap mileage, is it really a 4 Runner?

What is your definition of terrible gas mileage? My 2022 Bronco with the 2.3L EcoBoost and manual transmission is averaging lifetime (8,400 miles so far) at 20.8 MPG. I'm ecstatic over that number. The more powerful 2.7L EcoBoost Bronco brings nearly as good mileage with the 10-speed automatic. I'd expect the '25 4Runner to be near the same or maybe better, though it only has a 8-speed auto.

Agree on the fuel economy comments. "Great" isn't that great when looking at other vehicles in the same size class.

Current and past cars in my fleet:

2005 Gen 4 4Runner 1GR-FE 4.0NAV6: 15-17 mpg
2017 W166 GLE350 M276 3.5NAV6: 20mpg day in, day out
2020 9Y0.1 Cayenne S EA839 2.9TTV6: 21mpg day in, day out

2025 4Runner pure ICE should be around 20mpg real world; similar to comparably-sized vehicles.

I've rented quite a few 4Runners and although I don't doubt they'll be reliable, I've never driven a car that makes so much to move so slowly.

It's the most over rated vehicle ever. Reliable? 100%... but otherwise? NFI what he fuss is about. Under powered, thirsty, old, creaky, poor ride etc. I'll never understand it.

4Runner ownership is about reliability, utility (family truckster duty) and off-road capability. And it's a good towing platform.

And a large, loyal and enthusiastic group of owners.

99% of them haven't been seen a gravel road. It's all image, the myth is larger than the reality itself. Get a RAv4 and be done with it.

Not much different from 911's, M3's, etc. Won't see a day on track...might as well buy a Civic or at most a GR86. Sometimes the myth is more worthy than the reality.

My family has a lot of 4runners and I can confirm they go a billion miles. I wish I could convince my dad to drive one of these, he'd love it. He's got over 300k on his 07' 4runner.

That thing is a tank
