EV nonsense aside, this seems like some kind of sign that BMW may no longer be BMW.

No doubt they have some globalist New Normal consulting firm like McKinsey or Deloitte advising them on such decisions.

Indeed it should.

But maybe some enterprising individual looked into a crystal ball, saw the dystopian future, and shoved the monstrosity into the lake itself.

Actually, the the guy in charge of the M5 Touring explained that they had to remove it due to the design of the rear of the roof and how it slopes and integrates the rear spoiler.

I got an email from the BMW CCA Golden Gate chapter here in the San Francisco Bay area that they will be launching a new vehicle at Motul Course de Monterey on May 10.

I wonder if this is the car and they unwrap it and detail it?

Quite a few share your perspective. I'd venture to cautiously suggest that the demand for M5 Touring could exceed the demand for XM.

Looking forward to the next iteration of sales statistics.

Front end looks mean af.

Is it just me or do the wheel sizes (f/r) seem staggered like on the G8X?

Yeah, smells more like cost-cutting to me.

The rear-glass function is a staple of the brand and loved by all BMW touring afficianados.

They could have done it if they wanted, but given all of the cost-cutting in the new series, I would be willing to bet a considerable sum of cash on the function simply being deemed disposable in the name of saving a few euros.

It's sad, really.

The M5 will be 7cm wider than the standard 5 series. And yes, the rear is getting wide fenders aswell.

Product Planners surely have decided that near-zero sales will hinge on whether the hatch glass opens independently.

100% cost cutting and the simple knowledge that probably no customer will decide against the new 5 series because of it.

Sad, one of the best touring features and one I loved on the BMW tourings I have had. Missed it on the G05 and now on the iX.
