Yes. Have you seen a G60 in person? Very tall looking. I don’t actually hate the shape, generally. I can see some similarities to the beloved E39. But it’s too tall and they screwed up the rear end.

I am very happy that my current lease on my S8 does not run out until September 2026. Gives plenty of time for both the G90 and G99 to release and for people to buy and review them.

Right now, things are not looking good for me as a BMW customer. I picked up 2 new Audis in 2023, an R8 and S8, because BMW did not have any interesting cars to me. Let's see if the new M5 can change that.

Just like the g87 m2 makes 450, now 470 hp. We know that’s probably not true, and much more. But, yeah it’s now apparently a straight line missile.

However, I’m sure the construction, materials, and tech (along with the aforementioned straight line speed) will far exceed the chicken wing, but probably not in the twisties. Boils down to what the buyers desires and their pocketbooks of course. Personally, I wouldn’t buy any car the size of the old 7 series M5 or CT5. The G80 is plenty big enough and has just as much if not a higher ceiling of performance, just no v8.

I was in the closed room to take a look at the G90. The car is nice, but it's just so vertically designed. Everything is too high up. The hood, the trunklid, somehow, the car is wide as fuck, but it looks narrow and high. The interior is nice though.

I hate to say this, but I agree with you. I just got two new BMW’s because of this concern.

Hood and trunk are high because of new safety/crash test regulation in Europe.

You need also the space for the battery pack which make the car higher also because if you want to still have a good handling even with 2600 kgs you shall put the battery in the lower place possible. => higher cabin and roof line

The one thing I really like is the widened fenders. Some 21" BBS LM R with a nice drop would look so good. Wheels will finally sit similar to how they do on the M3/4's.

Do M5 drivers care about handling and the feel of the car? I know BMW does a great job hiding weight, but there is a lot to hide here. Hopefully the M5 is not just a lower XM.

They could have done the battery crap in this car to a much lesser degree and added a couple hundred pounds. They didn’t need to go full bore and give it 45 miles miles of ev range making it 1000 lbs heavier than f90. No need. No one buying this car cares of it has 10 miles on ev power or 50. But we do care about making it to freaking heavy.
Don’t know about that.
I personally think a 50ish mile hybrid car is the best all round option, the fact that this will also be rapid makes even more sense.
90% of my drives in my M4X are sub 50 miles, it’s not my daily and I use only at weekend. Arround town I’m not interested in how fast I can go it’s not the place to do it, I just love my car for its looks and presence on the road. But when I go for an actual drive I’m all in and economy isn’t relevant then.
For me, it’s the perfect platform as I’d only fuel up when I want drive all day out in the country at speed.

I think we are about to find out what the market thinks about an extra thousand pounds added to an already large sedan.

agree. I think it's because the body lines run above the door handles instead of through them.

Yes, unfortunately that's how it has to be these days. But then I look at the Porsche Taycan and somehow they manage to make the car wide and low.

I absolutely guarantee you nobody is going to give two shits about the weight. It's something that gets blown out of proportion on a car forum full of fake racers.
The average consumer is going to see 750 horsepower out of a new BMW and these cars will fly off the shelves for the next foreseeable future.
There is no ring taxi on your way to Target to get toilet paper. The only downsides will be at the M Performance school where they will have to change tires and break pads sooner.

The new M5 appears to be exactly a sedan version of the XM label. Time will tell if this prediction is true or not. I considered an XM and, after spending some time in it, walked away not liking it very much. Keep in mind, I have had numerous X5M and X6M vehicles so my dislike isn’t based on the XM being an SUV…..its based on how the XM drives.
