No matter how much I try to like to new 5 series generation, I just cannot, it's not one of those cars that after seeing it in person you say "oh yes, this is a nice looking machine".
All this new gen of M5s is gonna do is to make the previous one to increase in value. Remember that this is basically a hybrid car and BMW even removed the best feature they've ever had in their Tourings: the back window doesn't open anymore, it's fixed. I'm really struggling to imagine my next car will also be a BMW given their completely horrendous design choices and crazy pricing.

Man, was anxiously awaiting this but from the few leaked pictures I think the RS6 looks better. I’ll still hold my judgment until the official reveal though. For everyone like myself who is awaiting this reveal, why not the RS6? Is it just that everyone on here are BMW fanboys so loyal to the brand to make a change (not that there is anything wrong with this)? Or is there something wrong with the RS6? Genuinely curious. For me it’s that I’m waiting for my X5 M50i to come off lease and then I hope to get into a wagon. Still don’t know which one, but by looks alone I’m leaning RS6.

I am not digging the side profile. The upward angle of the window line from front to back leads to a smaller rear window and rear-side windows. I think there is too much metal, not enough glass. The slope of the window line makes it look taller, and more like an SUV than a wagon. I think if the rear-side windows were larger with a lower bottom edge it would make the profile appear more sleek and sporty.

I'm really digging the new touring design. It's a much more refined and sleek look compared to the sedan. While I'm not a huge fan of the exaggerated curve on the rear fender, I'm excited to see it in person. It could grow on me!
I'm curious to see what Audi has in store for the new RS7 Avant. The current RS6 C8 is a fantastic option for those who prefer a cleaner look. And current powertrain is simpler than this. |

Major improvement on the sedan in my humble opinion.
To those whining about the wheels, here’s a 3 minute photoshop of some Vossen S17-1’s. |

That giant diffuser makes the weird thing on the back of the RS6 look understated and classy.
Without the independantly opening rear glass, there's no significant upgrades to choose this over a used, better looking RS6.

On a $140k+ car, we shouldn't have to spend another $10k+ just to get wheels that look decent.

For an M car, I would like to see some push for the function to drive the design more than the other way around. The M Performance 863M style comes to mind as an extension of an efficient Y-spoke pattern with more modern machining techniques. I would like to see an option similar to this at least in philosophy. Edit: Having seen the M5 and Touring in person at Pebble Beach today I'm still not convinced by the 952M. The 951M in black doesn't look too bad and it's easier to see the calipers esp if you go for the CCBs. I also liked that the hofmeister kink on the Touring doesn't have "///M5" stamped on it. At that point though I'd prefer if the trim width stayed consistent with the rest of the car so now it feels unfinished one way or the other. I didn't get to go inside but I'd love to see it in a nice Individual blue (Gentian, San Marino) or a red (Imola, Cinabar). Last edited by rockitman07; 08-14-2024 at 07:20 PM.. What's the point of having cool brakes with painted calipers if you can't see them because the wheels are too busy? These wheels look like cheap hubcaps. They are going to be a pain to clean, also. So many nooks and crannies, and it will be impossible to clean the interior barrel. |

Yup, that's the M5 to have. Now imagine Oxford Green, Tartufo leather, 21" squared wheels and a slight drop

Not to mention you can easily sell the factory wheels for more than enough to buy an aftermarket pair you like. |
