If someone had M2 button programmed to be “FULLHAM” (love it, btw), what’s the difference of just pushing the M2 button? If anything it seems slightly slower to hold down the paddle for a couple seconds then wait another second or so for boost to engage….

What am I missing?
I am also wondering the same
I did not see anyone using the function and comparing it with some time measurement to see if it makes a difference
I think boost it increase throttle response and may help in a rolling race or passing
Will know soon when new reviews comes out
Aslo i just saw a review saying 100 to 200 is 6 4 s

If you look at bmwblogs video where they explain the boost mode she sounds like she’s describing they are using the electric motor to load up the turbos to generate boost so it’s there immediately instead of the taking time to spool up after you floor it.

Just speculating now. Would be pointless if all it’s doing is putting everthing in the most aggressive setting because I could do that with the M1 /M2 buttons.

Pretty sure it works the same way as it does in my wifes 24 740i.
Boost mode will set a coundown for 10 seconds and will deliver all the power from the engine and hybrid system. It works well even with the smaller hybrid system. It also feels like it takes much harder off ( without launch control) then my G80 m3 xdrive.

As my car is already in transit, I've been kicking myself for not realizing before it was too late that the 'boost' functionality was only available with M Drive Professional package... (which I didn't get as I don't want the drift analyzer feature... I'd want to use it, and that would eventually inevitably end poorly)

However, looking back at the detailed press release back in June, it seems as though there wouldn't be much difference between just pressing M1 or M2.. right? Assuming one of them was set to most aggressive powertrain and chassis setting, what would be the difference with using Boost? Is it only that boost is automatically temporary vs the M button stays on till deactivated / car turns off?

Here is where it talks about boost... (page 8)
A feature not offered by any rival, the Boost Control function enables
extremely rapid bursts of speed when travelling at between 30 and
150 km/h (19 – 93 mph). Pulling on the left-hand shift paddle for more
than one second prompts all the powertrain and chassis systems to be
switched to their sportiest setting.
An alert on the information display
indicates that this function has been initiated. When the driver then
pushes down hard on the accelerator, the car accelerates without delay
and with great force and dynamic flair.
Fingers crossed I won't actually end up missing out on much..

Boost mode is not a big deal but will see in real life testing
Thr other thing you dont get is the dynamic and dynamic plus mode on the m hybrid setup
What those do i am not 100%sure but they say they lrepare the car for maximum performance

Lol.... I bet you'll be happy you got it and learned from my mistake.

If you aren't happy about it - we can just trade cars

This is the hugely informative (NOT!) detail on BMW Ireland’s configurator as to what specifically the M Driver’s Pack adds (see image) .

I understand it is:
Increase top speed to[*]Two additonal drive modes added to Drivelogic, specifically intended for track use. [*]Track day with BMW.
If one were caught doing 155mph, let alone 189mph (305Km/h) on Irish roads… you would make the front pages of the broadsheets and would definitely be getting bed & board at the pleasure of the State for an extended period of time, measured in years. No thanks.

The additional drive modes are tyre-shredding-y too so no interest in them.

Can live without the track day too.

As for ‘Boost’ on the left gear paddle… I understand this is standard and acts almost like an ‘M3’ button preset to set the car for full-power for 10secs.

I have omitted this pack from my build for the above reasons and, although I have a wee bit of FOMO, my car is currently in production.

Two final points:
I did hear one YouTuber state that ‘Boost’ is a feature of M Driver’s Pack but despite much content consumption cannot confirm and a complete waste of time asking d[*]I think M Driver’s Pack is an ‘acquirable’ feature within the BMW Store in iDrive but am about 50:50 on it.
I wonder does anyone know for sure?

MY UNDERSTANDING Is (in the US) there are two options you can tick-

M Drive Professional:
"M Drive Professional is the perfect companion for trips with that extra dose of adrenaline. M Track mode and ten-stage M Traction Control enable tailored drivability. The M Drift Analyzer and the M Laptimer help to further expand your performance by providing a comprehensive overview shown in the instrument cluster or optional Head-up Display."
-this gives you the Boost function and the two extra drive modes and pretty much everything not included in...

M Driver's Package:
"In addition to raising the top speed of your BMW M vehicle, the package also includes a unique 1-day high-performance driving class at a BMW Performance Center. The course has been tailored to driving M vehicles through various high-speed exercises, letting you experience the limits of the vehicle in a controlled environment."
-which is just the raised speed limiter and a day at the track.

Ah phew… so I’m golden… here are the standard features for the Ireland market:

M Drive Pro is top of the list …this is what you US guys are paying 900 bucks for?

Yep that's what it lists for in the configurator. It's kind of odd that it's a separate option on a car that expensive. Seems like the cost of differentiating the assembly process would exceed any savings, but I'm sure BMW has a good reason for it.

The other option is $2500, which is (for people who don't live near the Autobahn or who don't have access to a banked circular track) essentially just a discounted ticket to the racing school (doubly so if you lease). I'm only a couple hours from their East Coast US school, so it's a no-brainer for me. Not sure I'd do it otherwise.

Alan
Chief project manager in that video did explain that the EV motor works against the ICE motor to build up boost for instant power so you are correct
