Well, you’re half-right.

My order was placed using the configurator which was live at time of launch -late June.

The ‘Sport Tyres’ option was not present then, it came along well after my build slot was booked.

Of course, ‘Manufacturer reserves the right to alter spec …yadda yadda yadda’.

But I knew I was clutching at straws hoping it would turn up shod with Michelins.

My thinking was why not use the €1000 to cover/contribute to tyre set #2 rather then burning it on upgrading set #1? The Hankooks aren’t as good, don’t look as good and probably don’t have rim protection but they’re not chinese remoulds either!

Congrats Sir! That‘s a beautiful machine and a stealth bomber as such.
Definitely need to get used to seeing an M5 plugged on an EV spot.

Cannot collect until Jan.
Lighting isn’t great and not fully-prepped.
I can see that I did not win the tyre lottery!
It looks fantastic.

Spec is:
Sophisto Grey
951M Bicolour
Red Calipers
Silverstone /Black interior
Oak fine wood trim
Driving assist pro
Alcantara headling
& Towbar!!!!

Counting the days!
Was the towbar in the configurator? I know in Europe it's more common on cars. I'm in the US and hope to put a hitch on mine so I can carry bikes. I carry them on my roof on my current BMW. It's really kills the gas mileage. Congrats and nice ride.

Beautiful, when I moved to the 530e G31 from 520d g31 the big issue for me was not being able to stick to sophisto grey. Love it, although I’d have gone for blue calipers with the colour. Otherwise it’s pretty much the spec I’d like but in the touring.

Love that they haven’t put the blue ringed hybrid badges on the M5, but I’d still probably make the change to painted black edge ones. Love how that looks on my g31 in tanzanite. I’d be tempted by a debadge or a black boot badge also.

We’ll wear, will be looking out for it around Dublin

I have fitted many an aftermarket towbar, cut the bumper, connected in CANbus wiring etc.
The successful deactivation of rear parking sensors & activation of trailer-sway-control varies widely between towbar systems and vehicles.
It’s also necessary, in some cases, to activate a module in the vehicle requiring dealer involvement.
It costs at least 50% of a factory hitch and only where you are the labour. If you have to hire someone the savings shorten massively.
And the aftermarket towbars, by and large, won’t swivel and hide away.

There is another, much lesser known fact about proper factory setups: Enhanced cooling & Electrical systems come with the factory systems and there’s very little knowledge of that in the consumer domain.
The stated towing weights of vehicles are based on enhanced cooling systems being present. They are not when one adds a bar oneself.
So, for abundant clarity, two identical vehicles, one with factory towbar, one without… the one with the hitch has a different cooling system and some electrical differences too.

When this is factored-in, it’s a no-brainer getting the one from the factory.

To answer your question: The hitch is an option on the configurator for BMW Ireland, BMW UK &, important for USA, the left-hand-drive market of BMW France (which are the only three I’ve checked).

Attached, images of the option on a G90 configurator in LHD & RHD EU markets. Also, dealer instructions for towbar retrofit on a G05 X5. Note larger fan requirement.

I would push your dealer hard to try to get the hitch optioned in their backend.

I would advise anyone optioning a car to order it even if you’ll never use it. You never know!

Finally, I didn’t order the hitch to tow heavy trailers but rather for the convenience of using hitch accessories for carrying bicycles etc. Keeps the car clean.

They also stop bad parkers from bashing your rear diffuser!!

Let me know if you have any questions.

You’ll have to get a passport for the Real Capital to see it!

What’s a ‘Black Boot’ badge?

I had blue calipers on my 545e so time for a change. The red pops a bit more and provides an edgy contrast to the sober greys of the wheels & body. (In my humble opinion)

Dealer’s pushing me for Jan 2 collection. I was hoping to wait until 3rd to let the reg numbers rise… don’t want a plate that’s too easy to remember!
I'm curious why do you have to wait until Jan to take delivery? Also it seems your registration is tied to your day of delivery why is that the case?

Ah I see, are you brave enough for the C reg so?! The in laws and all their family are all over west cork, so I pass though a bit anyway, will keep an eye out. Be great to see many more of this M5 on the roads here, relatively such a bargain.

See pic of 530e badge in black, I’m not overly pleased with it but preferred to the silver bits. Painted roundels in pic also.

Cars in Ireland are registered based on delivered to customer day and the registration plate indicates the year and which half of the year. So if you register from 1st of July to 31st of December 2024 it would be 242 reg plate. 1st of January 2025 on its 251 registration plate. This makes a big difference in Ireland when you come to sell onward.

There is no such thing as vanity or custom plates here. 2 days difference in registration and your car is a year older as far as buyers are concerned. The other thing that can limit the market for second hand high end cars is the county it’s registered to as that can’t be changed afterward either.

Not 100% accurate on the ‘custom’ piece. You can pay the State €1000 and choose the county & numbers so, you could opt for, say, 251-D-727.

Ah now, the in laws are blow ins to Dublin, the ones all over west cork and the city are born and bred. Can’t go anywhere west of Bandon without bumping into a cousin or having to visit an aunt etc.

It’ll be tough I’d say looking back at this beauty and seeing the D starting back at you each time!! But the right call.
