why are people proud that they overpaid the government?

The real question is NOT how much you overpaid and are getting refunded, the real question is how much you had to pay in

personally my wife and I paid 22,092 $ in FICA payroll taxes, and another 27,426 $ in federal income tax, and another 6369 $ in state income tax

The most FICA tax that you should have paid, per person, is $6,324. I call

are you only counting the employee half? I counted both half's, my boss would have paid me that money if he did not have to pay the IRS (there's only 5 employee's where I work)

see that's how the government suckers stupid people, they don't even realize they only see half of the fica tax on their pay stub

also there's 2 separate limits on fica arent there?

there's fica oasdi, and then there's fica medicare

I think everyone should pull out the numbers and look at them, just absorb how much money the government takes from us, to redistribute and spend as they see fit

people need to stop caring about how much of a refund they got, because that's YOUR MONEY, you over paid, that's like giving the store a 100 $ bill and being happy you got 30 $ in change

I thought "FICA" was just Social Security Taxes. Medicare is something different.

got my federal refund 6 days after i filed. California refund is nowhere to be seen. Went to the website to check when its coming, and was told to call the 1-800 number... called them up and was told "up to 10 weeks".

On top of that i got back-billed by the state for 2004 and 2005, because they think they overpaid me.

there's 2 parts, the SSI part, and the medicare part, both are separate lines on pay stubs, or bills if you pay yourself

all together make up that 6.2 x 2 % tax

Damn, you guys are making me feel poor only having to write $14k to the IRS for the year(my portion not including the wifey)

You're writing a $14k quarterly? wanna hook up the job, the wife and I will move. Both have undergrad degrees and she has her MBA

My CPA underestimated my quarterly's for 07. I near shit a brick and killed him when he told me I still owed $8k. I told him after we finished 06 to up my income for 07 and he forgot to. Self employment tax can be a bitch. Thank god we started to tack on more deductions to lower it to $3.5k, still pissed though. On the bright side we qualified for the $7,500 15/yr interest free loan 1st time homebuyer credit this year.

I was pissed we didn't qualify for the $8k that you didn't have to pay back at all.
