once i was with my friend and a cop pulled him over because he thought he ran the stop sign which he didn't, after explaining we didn't run the sign he looked at my friends back seat where he saw a umbrella cover (he has one of those super small umbrellas) . Anyhow the cop freaked out and called for back up lol this guy went all out 3 other cop cars showed up, he wore rubber gloves and then when he picked it up he looked so stupid the other cops actually started to giggle. I was like office sir you could have just asked us what it was I'm guessing he was new and he just said i don't need your help lol

LOL, where was this at? Cops these day got nothing better to do. Here in SF, they love to pull people over with no front license plate. I mean come on, aren't there better things to do..?
Illinois, about 10 minutes from Iowa. Its like that EVERYWHERE around here. Ive been pulled over ATLEAST 30 times, no joke from loud exhaust to stops signs, "fading off the white line", Music to loud, its endless. They have nothing bett to do. Ive only got 3 tickets and none of them are moving violations.

SCOTUS ruled in favor of the defendant. Probable cause and a warrant are now needed again unless you are near the car and pose a danger to the police officers. The case was Arizona v. Gant, and it was decided only a few months ago, maybe less.

If I got this wrong I'm sure yomama69 will straighten me out.
ahh that's what it was, I had it backwards...thanks

Though border control I believe is different on that regard, but if you're already in the US and get pulled over, it is not legal to search a person or his car without his/her consent or probable cause.
Yes they can. I was an MP in the Marine Corps. If someone refuses a search we could always have a K9 unit sniff the vehicle and if the dog alerts to something that gives you reason to conduct a search.

And as far as Border Patrol checkpoints go, that's not crossing into the US that's any checkpoint throughout the Southwest US along I10 and any other place they have permanent or temp checkpoints. Drive along I10 through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, etc and you are bound to have a dog sniff your vehicle while you wait in line.

Keep in mind that military law is *vastly* different from civilian law. E.g. Article 134. Spitting on the sidewalk can get you apprehended in the military.

You should just forget about your rights. In this post-911 era, they can always say you are a terrorist and suspend all your due process rights. I thank Bush for making our great US of A no more different from China by throwing our Constitution away... deep into an ocean of BS.

i have heard from several people if the car is parked and they ask you to get out of it and you do so then lock the car, they can no longer search it with probable cause and need a warrant because of the fact it is locked/sealed property, I think this is bull, but anyone heard this one too?
