You know the the good ol' 3er, being BMW's flagship car isn't a "luxury import" everywhere it's sold... In Europe, they are as common as minivans and mustangs are over here in the US. Don't get me wrong, I love my E92 a lot, but if you actually prefer "the honda accord of Europe* over a "POS over priced Ford GT", you just have bad taste. Quote:
These cars were only built for MY05 and MY06 and the full production run was never even completed. To put things into perspective for those who just don't get it: This stamp is in the engine bay and has names of the two engineers who HAND BUILT the engine. Does that sound familiar? Let's see, Lambos, Ferraris, AMGs, etc. are all hand built engines. Now if you can't appreciate that just because it was hand built in Michigan by a couple of American guys then you have some serious issues.

There are two of them in my community. Took one for a rip down 535. Wow, what a car, though I have to say that the vehicle squats quite a bit while accelerating. A suprising amount for such a high performance car. Also a major PITA to get in and out of.
You forgot to mention the B&W sound system |

I would rather have this Ford than a Carrera GT and that isn't a joke. It feels more endearing to drive something that looks this good and goes this well but has a blue oval on it.
This is as close as we will get to a blue collar supercar.

I'd say something like 150k before markups... but probably more since it is no longer in production.

You just can't compare numbers and think two cars are on par with each other... The GT is just on a different planet from ANY 3er you can throw at it. If you want to continue talking aftermarket, check this: LoL! Mo' boobiez plz!

This is my first BMW, probably will be my last as I really am not into a car with numerous problems that can't be fixed. It has nothing to do with badge names, so you can hang that one up. You guys are comparing a 40K BMW to a car that costs easily 5X more. Everyone is hung up on saying it's a great car.... IMO it's not... simple |

And how does saying "It's an over priced Ford" NOT make it a "badge name" issue? Dude you're completely right... he is an asshat.

I'll retract the word Ford and use American made vehicle. Does that make it better or worse? No, it doesn't change a thing. Isn't this the same car that was recalled when first produced and delivered to owners for issues regarding catching on fire or something of the sort? I'm not 100% on what the exact issue was, but it was a serious one. It's way further into production now, so I'm sure that issue is resolved, but just because someone built it with their bare hands doesn't make it a great vehicle. Sure it's fast. For the hundreds of thousands of dollars it costs, it should be. To me it's not on par with some higher end cars that come from foreign makers especially when you compare costs, styling. |

And to add to the hand built engine fact, ford has been hand building SVT engines the same way since as far back as 1996. possibly longer IE cobras, Lightnings...

The recall you may be referring to it the rear control arms. The cast aluminum that was used on the control arms were recalled to replace them with forged as they discovered the cast ones could possibly crack in extreme circumstances. Don't know if any actually did...

^^ Actually it was the OP that said the N54 was nothing. As stated in the thread title.
The control arms was one of many issues with the car when it came out. Ford tested a car built one way, I think there was a handful or two tested. Then when it came to the actual production of the car trying to fill the demand, Ford and all who were involved building the car went cheap on how the car was produced. It wasn't the same car/parts as what was initially tested on the track. That led to the numerous problems. There is a lot more to the initial productions that came out then what some of you seem to know. |
