A perfect example would be shamoo's thread of the Philippines...perhaps with more commentary if possible.

Hi everyone. Here's my first post on 1Addicts from Japan.

Arrived late Saturday night. It's really hot and humid at the moment, with cicada's never shutting the f*ck up! Luckily, we have air conditioners in the bedrooms. I forgot how scary Japanese beds can be. They're like four feet off the ground, with steps going up. Underneath, doors slide open for storage. I remember being little and thinking about ghosts or monsters; especially in the summer (A/C would be on, so the room is cool, but under the bed is hot, so if you open the doors, hot air and darkness!). So, that monster under your bed (in the US), could only be like a foot tall. But here, they could be frickin' gigantic (imagination with actual, physical space under you!).

Not much has changed, really. Things don't seem as far or as big this time around though. I guess that's what happens with anything you remember as a kid, and visit again as an adult.

Monday, I bought my cell phone; a nice 943SH. For the techies who are wondering, yes, it has TV, internet, video call, all that stuff; and an 8.1 MP camera to boot. Here's something that will be different to you guys though, after I bought the phone, and signed the contracts for their 2 year plan, I was also given 3 beers. Haha! But here's the real kicker...in the US, your cell phone comes with the power cable to charge the phone; but here, after I bought my phone, the sales lady asks me if I want the power cable to charge the phone. They don't come with the phones here! It cost another ¥980 (about $10). Needless to say, I did, but you can imagine all the horrible analogies you could come up with to compare that with (I bought a car, then the salesman asks do you want a gas pedal to go with your car...?).

I think I've been drinking every night since I've been here. I'm not an alcoholic, it's just the way it is here. When in Rome...

I'm going to go buy a computer today...I looked at computers here a last week, and they're really expensive. The computer I'm typing on right now is really old. I'm surprised it has the RAM to run this site.

I don't have a digital camera; but I have been using my phone to take pictures. Looking through the box (I should've figured), there's no USB cable. I guess I have a few options to get photos off my phone to the internet; Mini SD Card, Upload from the Phone to the internet (like photobucket), or go buy the stinkin' USB cable.

Anyway, all's well. Drinking alcohol is the cure for jetlag, my friends. I haven't had any jet lag after the first day!

Oh! I also have to sign up for gym, probably today. There's one nearby, but it's really expensive. I guess I can pay it, considering how close it is...

Sorry no pictures this time!

I don't have any pictures of things I want to share yet, just family photos.

I did go to a store and took pictures (with my cell phone; bad quality) of Gran Turismo 5. It will come out 11/3! Here is the thread and pictures.

I feel like I'm on an extended vacation...I want to find a job and work...

This weekend, I will travel to Osaka Aquarium with my girlfriend! Maybe new pictures!

Looks like I missed the first bump...but looking forward to pics whenever you get them.

Have you ever been to China, Mega? (I hope I haven't asked you this before)

p.s. I've become friends with a Japanese foreign exchange student in one of my business classes; he's really polite. I assume this is typical of the Japanese?

I can speak for Mega that Japanese people in general are VERY polite. You should see the reactions when you walk into a convenience store such as 7-11, lawson, mini-stop, family mart, ect ect. They treat you like you're buying a car from them (or the service I provide non sexual).

I haven't been to China myself but growing up in Japan, I've been dying to really go back and experience what I was too young to appreciate. China does seem more fun with the increase in tourism and the twist it has on Western establishments such as McD, KFC, Pizza, Pasta and Western style life. However, Japan is more of a fusion between modern and traditional cultures. Another fine point in Japan is that when you get tired of the city and leave to the country side, it's just as beautiful but with a modern twist. (imagine wifi in the middle of no where)

I don't know much about Japanese culture, but the way it was portrayed in The Last Samurai was amazing. I know those days are long past and that it probably sounds stupid as hell, to you, for me to even bring that example up. I would love to see the cherry blossoms in bloom.

brb amazing sushi and food that i can't even imagine

I spent 3 weeks China...I wasn't too enthused about going but it turned out to be one of my favorite vacations. I would love to check out Japan, and have been meaning to post the China pics as the interest pops up every now and then...I'll get to it someday

japan is freakin bomb. spent 2 weeks over there for vacation last year and had a BLAST. it'd be tough if you don't speak the language (thank god my GF does), but definitely an enjoyable country. i can't wait to go back and check out the more countryside parts rather than tokyo/kyoto.

and don't even start me on the girls.... mmmmmmm

OK...here's some pictures. Not many, I was looking through them, and most of them have people in them (related to me), so I didn't want to post.

I tried on my old school uniform, and it still fits! WTF!

As far as the previous comments all went, yes it's true, the girls are pretty cute...but they can be a pain in the @$$! If you're a foreigner though, and you get a native Japanese girlfriend, she'll be sprung on you til you let her go.

I was fortunate enough to meet someone 2 weeks after being here, and we've been together for about 2 months now!

So, this is some actual green tea (not the store bought stuff; made by ceremony for you):

My old school

Firetruck:

Osaka Aquarium (Whale Shark, there're 2):

Gran Turismo 5 (which I think came out today; I'll check tomorrow):
