Porsche had nothing to gain and everything to lose if they somehow blew it. Even winning by a narrow margin would have been insufficient for porsche.

A mini would get pwned by a Carrera S on a track like Road Atlanta. Seriously.

Now if it were an Auto-X race it would be a different story. Minis are practically the kings of Auto-X. They never have to use their brakes

Mini's first ad, kind of funny. Porsche's response, very classy. Mini's subsequent responses, reek of desperation and not funny.

Funny you should mention that, because Mini had no intention of racing on the main circuit. At least, thats according to Auto Blog. This challenge was to take place somewhere in the midfield area, so they are assuming it was going to be an AutoX event.

^ That makes more sense from both the perspective of Mini and Porsche.

I priced one the other day at 62K

hmm M3 or Boxster Spyder...I'd go with the p car in a heartbeat

with that being said if you have a local pca chapter near you go autox with them. Those cars are surprisingly quick.

I have a Boxster 987S, and it is a great little car. I have not gone to a PCA auto-X, but I have gone to a BMWCCA auto-X and it was fun. I looked into PCA, but they seem to have more stated rules (weather they follow them inpractice, or just go and have fun I don't know) then BMWCCA. I like the BMWCCA events because they are fun, any member can bring any car that they want to bring and play!

That being said, I prefer a real track to auto-X, however you can't beat auto-X for safety (not usually much to hit, and lower speeds), and learning car control at the limit.

I figured they would want to run on the small auto-x circuit back by turns 6 and 7. If it were on the main circuit, it wouldn't even be funny. Road Atlanta is a fairly fast track where you can carry quite a bit of speed. Just considering the speed differentials on the run from turn 7 to 10a; it would be rediculous.

The 928s and 944s are as fast around an autox circuit as the GT3s. Most of their rules are common sense mostly. But they are a bit more serious about the evey but it's still good fun.

My issue is I don't have a track within 150 miles of me. So autox being 10 minutes from ke is a big plus

What do you mean, you're probably only a few miles from the NJ Turnpike.

Hyundai ad is cute, they have Rhys Millen as their driver. That would be an interesting matchup, at least.

Something I don't get.

If Mini is THAT persistant.. it means they have something under their sleeve that could beat the 911S. They must have done test runs... else they would be dumb as f***. Which means, if they are certain to beat the 911s (which is a HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGE surprise to me), they can easily beat the Genesis.

They can't back down, else they would be the mockery of car makers for the next century.

First they got humiliated by Porsche. Now Hyundai is about to humiliate them.

MINI failed terribly at being a attention whore..

Since Porsche isn't going, I wonder if MINI will show up at Road Atlanta with a rented Porsche, race against themselves, lose on purpose, and then declare victory.

If MINI seriously wanted to get Porsche to show up, they should offer a million dollars to charity - if Porsche wins it goes to their favorite charity, if MINI wins it goes to theirs.

My mistake. Garden State Parkway then. It's almost as good, but with buses instead of semis to practice drafting with.
Remember, it's a race track in your mind.
