I've had nice cars in NYC for years and never had a problem... just have to be smart about parking, driving etc,. I only park on street when absolutely necessary and keep it to a minumum, otherwise garage all the time and anytime. Nice car in NYC is a lot of fun

OP, I am thoroughly enjoying your reaction to this experience! Too bad about your car though... As a cop, I have been involved in many cases like this, and it's cool that they let you go with. As for others saying you should have knocked him out, that's the worng thing to do. Property crimes do not justify personal violence.

Yes, I was aware of that... that he could have had a weapon... but as I said before, I have seen all this in past, I had been jumped at with knife, with gun etc, in past so I am very well aware how these things unfold... ... but it seems he was absolutely terrified of my Cannon camera I guess criminals have fears too. Every Thiefs greatest fear is to be caught... what do you think this Thief is thinking right now, since he knows he has been filmed doing a crime and his Mug Shot is out there?

Could be true. Based on the pictures, I'm guessing this is not this guy's first rodeo, and that he isn't losing a lot of sleep over it. Career criminals seldom worry about the consequences like you or I would. It's just part of the game. To them, jail is just a part of the price you pay for free stuff.

Unless this guy has a couple strikes on him already, even if they catch him he won't get anything substantial. Your shit is gone OP. I can't believe the NYPD is going through that much trouble for a damn smash and grab.

I would of tazed him in the ass while his legs were hanging out, either that or waved a car to pull up and park real close to the car so he couldn't get out.

It is one of the most gratifying things, in the world (Said like Jeremy Clarkson). Seriously, the thing is that criminals know you can't shoot them, and frankly I wouldn't ever want to unless absolutely necessary, but when they realize you can Taze them, the "Oh F#%k!" look is worth every second I have spent under power (aka getting tazed) in training. Does this make me a sick individual? I don't think so..
