I hate it when people say "it was no big deal, I was out partying that night!" I was damn near incapacitated for a week and couldn't eat normally for over 2. A chick I work with had two black eyes from her wisdom teeth removal. It's a no joke procedure and you'll definitely want to be out. I was pretty young when mine came out but my Moms told me that I told her to shoot me on the ride home. It was horrible.

What do they give you to put you under nowadays? I just had propofol for another medical procedure and literally remember the anesthesiologist telling me my arm would get cold then them telling me I'm all done and they called my ride. It's was NOTHING to worry about. I felt 100% normal within a half hour.

More teeth you need removed : IV sedation.

If your wisdom teeth are impacted : IV sedation.

If teeth fully exposed : just shots and laughing gas.

If really apprehensive, disregard above two : IV sedation period.

You will also need someone to drive you home if you undergo IV sedation.

*shrug* maybe mine was no big deal because i only had 1 tooth taken out at a time. having 1 side of my mouth functional was helpful.

i remember when i had my wisdom teeth pulled. did all 4 at once and got put to sleep. woke up with no pain/swelling and after a day rest i was back to normal and ate whatever. get yourself a qualified surgeon and all is good. its funny to see how long you last after they inject you. next thing i know i was waking up.

I had two wisdom teeth removed 3 days ago. It's the two on the left side of my mouth.

The were not impacted, and I went with the doctor's recommendation to use Novocaine only.

After giving me the initial shot, he did some probing and we decided to go with a little more Novocaine.

The procedure went very well. It was virtually painless. He added one or two more shots of Novocaine during the procedure, and I did not have any significant pain the entire time.

Granted, if you're conscious, you will hear all the "construction work" going on, but you know, I prefer to be awake during the procedure, and it probably helps the dentist if the patient is able to cooperate.

Based on my experience I would recommend Novocaine, unless your teeth are impacted. Either way it's your call. Good luck to you!

If they're just yanking them then you dont need to be knocked out. If they are impacted elect for being fully sedated.

I dont think I was knocked out with anesthesia, because Im pretty positive only a anesthesiologist can do that, and it was just my oral surgeon that did it in a dentist style office. I was under when he did it, but I think it was just nitrogen or something, with a shot of Novocaine in both jaws

It was probably just nitrous and novocain injections. Nitrous alone cant knock you out. And the novocain will act as a nerve block for your entire jaw.

The shot of novocain, lasted 12 hours and I didn't have any pain afterwards. But I was under, he put a mask on me and told me to breath in and passed out, woke up 45 minutes later mouth full of gauze. But it wasn't propofol like I had for my elbow scope, which was a white liquid through the IV.

that sounds awesome. i don't think they shot me with novocain cause it felt like it only last a couple hours. i'd love to get put under; never experienced that before. just wake up and you're done.

I had mine taken out two at a time with local anesthetic. It hurt, but it wasn't so bad.

Had two removed at the same time in boot camp. A shot or two of novo and out they came. Took about 5 minutes total. they gave me a couple days of regular tylenol and sent me back to barracks. The day the extraction I had a 5 mile timed run to do.

I had one tooth that had to be removed. Unfortunately, it was impacted so I was put under. The procedure lasted roughly 30 minutes according to my mother, and I was groggy after the procedure. Also, I was swollen for about 2 days and ate all soft stuff for about 4-5 days. The one odd feeling is when you have the stitches in your mouth and you can feel a hole where the tooth used to be. Make sure you don't screw around with the stitching, as it will take about a a week to fall out on its own.

It was not THAT bad. It felt more of a soreness than pain.

Sedation was the best part lol. It was my first time going through anything like that. The Nitrous Oxide was trippy. It felt like my head was floating.

Anyway, the actual surgery itself is the easiest part. Tthe worst part is the pain within the first week. It was the shittiest thing I've ever been through. Keep up with whatever medicine you're given, or you'll regret it.

Because it all depends on how the teeth are sitting. If they are just in there and starting to push, than its easy shit and they'll numb you up and pull them out. If they're growing sideways and they are impacted then they will need to break the tooth apart with basically a hammer and chisel. You want to be knocked the fuck out for that. It hurts like a bitch after and you'll be swollen to the point where you cant close your mouth for days.

Get knocked out it's well worth it. I had all 4 of mine removed at once and they had to cut in to get a couple out. I remember not being able to really eat anything for a good amount of time although I didn't really feel that much pain. The vicodin was a nice little extra that wasn't needed but felt good haha. I am so glad I got them taken out in one sitting though.

just had all 4 of mine down 3 months ago. I got knocked out, woke up felt fine, was out of work for a couple days but back up and running after 3 days swelling went down after a week or so. Its not easy or a cake walk by any means but when you are all done with it you will be glad you did it and didn't wait for the teeth to get really bad.
