correct. i was just referring to an app for the iphone which will allow you to customize the features. Especially the auto mute for frequencies that are outside of those ranges that the police use.

Initial Thoughts after a few days with the Escort Max:

Pros:

Very Quiet (much quieter than the 9500ix)
I have passed by known areas that have falses and it has not gone off for the most part and GPS had not locked out the signal as I had not been by the area 3 times with the new detector

Different color displays is a nice option. (currently using green now and it looks sharp and very clear)

Settings menu is very easy to access and make changes
(Many new options including AutoMute that automatically reduces the volume of the alert after the initial alert)

GPS lock out works well (Same as the 9500ix)

The Range seems to be on par with the 9500IX which is very good in my opinion but not perfect. I had a .9 mile Ka warning on the 287 north yesterday. The trooper was driving the opposite way using constant on Ka. The range seems to be best on the V1 and Redline but you miss out on the GPS which is very valuable if you do much city driving.


Cons:

Mounting bracket is big and the button to release / insert the detector is very tight and small. It is hard to take it in and out with normal size fingers. Not fun moving the detector between different cars either.

Volume (I wish it could be louder especially when I have the music on which is all the time if I'm not on the phone)

Mini USB wire in order to update the software does not come with the detector. It cost $4 on Ebay but it really should come with it.

Overall as of now which is very early I like the detector but don't think its a worthwhile upgrade from the 9500ix. If you currently have another detector without GPS, I would recommend the upgrade.

The windshield mount that comes with the max is very similar to that which is the one I use. It does minimize the rattle and stay on the windshield much better than the traditional 2 sticky cups but is hard to move from one car to the other as it sticks very hard and is hard to mount the detector as it is a very tight spot where you have to press down on the detector to lock it in place. If you plan to keep the detector in one car and leave it there even when parked I would buy it but otherwise stick with the one you have.

The rattle almost drove me insane today. I tend only to notice it when I have passengers in the car.

Just want to add that a cool feature is you can update the software on the Escort Max from your computer for free for the life of the product. I just went from Version 1.6 to 1.8.

One small issue it that it resets your settings so you have to go and change them back after each update. It's pretty quick and easy to do though so I'm not too concerned.

Let me know if any of you guys buy one and what you think of it.
