I kid you not. It is his luxury items with the luxury attitude which females in UCSB probably got disgusted on.

Nice clothes+nice cars+good job did not get me anywhere.
When I was struggling in mid 20s, I drove an old 80's Subaru GL wagon w/ rust. I was going out on a date w/ at least 6 different women in one month.
Gold digger types.
Luxury types.
Nice girl types.
Academically orientated to even career orientated.
You name it!

BMW? Mercedes-Benz? Aston-Martin? Ferrari? forget it!
AT least for me, Subaru GL Wagon was THE BEST chick mobile ever!!

The best was when a hot girl who worked at Cisco System rode on my Subaru GL Wagon, instead of riding on other guys' X5(when it first came out) , or Boxster.

(not an actual vehicle I owned, but similar)

The scariest thing of all is that there are people out there, who seemingly normal on the outside, have an extremely dangerous and dark side. The nice man at the grocery store is exact the same guy is thinking about killing an entire house full of sorority girls. You cannot pick them out anymore: well spoken, well dressed, average car. It's not the kid with the hoodie. It's not the gangbanger with the tattoos. It's the young kid who bags your groceries and the boy who works at Blockbuster.

Reminds me of the film "Prisoners." That was an agonizing watch.

I agree. It would be nice to be able to blame the parents but multiple therapists and alerting the authorities... there's clearly a fundamental breakdown in how we as a society deal with the mentally ill.

So sad to see this happen. Too bad it wasn't stopped beforehand.

Narcissistic behavior at its fullest right here.

Not in Santa Barbara, this is not Germany,England,Amsterdam,Thailand or Hong Kong. He had mental issues and not getting sex, love and attention during his prime years was the icing on the cake. He definitely needed help and I believe he did not get the proper help he needed.

Reminds me of my neighbors across the street. Nice retired married couple. He was a craftsman always in the garage working with wood. At church every Sunday with his wife. I decided to hire him to build me a hutch for our rabbits. He invited me in, and showed me some of his projects. One night I'm sitting in the living room and I see his house on the 10 o'clock news. I look over at my wife with this confused look on my face and say, isn't that our street? We run outside and sure enough the local news van is there. Turns out he hired a hit man to "take out" his wife. Hit man was an undercover cop!

So you're exactly right. You never know what dark side people have. I trusted this guy to come into my home. Little did I know that this monster was planning on killing his wife!

First of all, hot girls don't work for Cisco, unless possibly in sales.

Cars have nothing to do with anything, there is something called a lease, so that anyone can have a nice car.

Looks are another thing. Ever notice how hockey players usually have ridiculous girlfriends/wives? Maybe it's your looks that gave you success in dating, not your Subaru.....

I graduated from UCSB last quarter. Elliot Rodger shot 2 bullets into my old apartment, shot at people in the 7/11 down the stairs, and killed someone at IV Deli- a place I frequented 2-3x a week at the late evening period he did the shooting. Needless to say, I have been very upset over what happened. I am thankful none of my friends were hurt, but I feel awful for those poor souls who were at the wrong place, at the wrong time. It could *EASILY* have been my buds or myself being shot, which makes this a very sobering event.

For better or for worse, and despite the flack i'd get... I do feel bad for Elliot Rodger. I looked through all his videos on youtube, and I just saw a young, lonely guy who felt he had no place in the world. Now, I cannot condone the absolutely vile and evil actions he took... but this guy really just needed some friends. I wish I could have met him and given him a beer, talked about cars. Considering he had a 328i sport pkg coupe, I would have happily chatted him about it if I saw him getting out of his car. UCSB does have a lot of d-bags, and unfortunately he probably met too many of those and assumed it of the whole community. This guy obviously had a lot of demons inside that somehow convinced him to turn his anguish into violence, and I just wish I could have had an opportunity to meet him and try to let him know someone would be his friend. Lord knows how lonely I was when my HS girlfriend broke up with me and I didn't develop a good network of friends yet by my 2nd year. While I never considered anything remotely as crazy as Elliot, I was very lonely and sad for awhile- im very thankful for the great people who work at UCSB's counseling.

The moral of this story that I take, is that you should try to be nice to people. I have the feeling this guy was an introvert and very shy, and he simply had bad luck with the type of people he tried to mingle and socialize with during these parties. My thoughts and heart go out to everyone who was affected by this tragedy.

Wow, this is so tragic!!

Clearly this lad had some serious issues, and when I saw this being reported and discussed last night I went searching and soon enough found his youtube channel - this has been going on for quite a long time, as in, the warning signs were there well in advance of this. But then again, only people close to him would have been able to realise the seriousness of this and consider that something like this might happen!

It's unfortunate that he was a BMW driver, but that's just one of those things.

Really sad!!
