You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality. - Ayn Rand (paraphrasing)

"According to the TPPF report … the average model year 2021 EV would cost approximately $48,698 more to own over a 10-year period without the staggering $22 billion in taxpayer-funded handouts that the government provides to electric car manufacturers and owners. The analysis factors in federal fuel efficiency programs, electric grid strain, and direct state and federal subsidies."

"One such cost included in the analysis is the “socialized cost” of charging stations. The extra strain on the grid amounts to around $12,00 of the extra $50k, which are “shouldered by utility ratepayers and taxpayers” many of whom, naturally, don’t own a recharge car…"

So the California DMV has taken the license away from GM Cruise autonomous taxis after a pedestrian was struck and dragged, calling it the "last straw".

Clearly the tech isn't there yet and likely years, maybe decades away. Same goes for the EV.

Mercedes-Benz shares fall 6% as profit falls; CFO bemoans ‘brutal’ EV pricing
Chief Financial Officer Harald Wilhelm described the EV market as a “pretty brutal space,” Reuters reported. It comes as some traditional automakers sell EVs for less than regular combustion-engine cars — despite higher production costs.

I read the Wired magazine article. California, the initiator of the walk-in-front-of-a-moving car law because, you know, like pedestrians should have the right-of-way vs. 4,000 pound automobiles...

The poor woman first got hit by a human-driven car (driver hit and ran) and the woman then flew into the path of the robotaxi. The Cruise EV tried to avoid hitting the woman, failed to do so, then ran over her trying to fail-safe by pulling over to the side of the road as it is programmed to do. Software just can't be written for every scenario in an active driving environment, which is why driverless cars are stupid. Beta testing on the public is stupid.

I hope this incident knocks out the entire industry.

Wait, what?!! I thought EVs were less expensive to produce than ICEV? You know all those extra piston, valves, gears, and stuff... Doesn't Tesla make like 120% profit on its cars?

So she was hit by probably a drunk first (explains why he ran) then the robot taxi ran over her, gather that she is alive.

This was the point I was making earlier about Tesla dropping their prices. It is bringing major pressure on their competition.

I thought that everyone understood that EVs are presently sold at a loss per car with the exception of BYD and Tesla.

China's BYD with the help of the Chinese government could bury Tesla in a New York second. You don't think Warren Buffett is backing BYD because he gives a crap about the environment? I think Musk is playing very dangerous politics here with "X". With out Dem Government Largess he will be just another foot note in history before that is erased.

Ford's Model E 2023 Q3 Earnings:

$1.3 billion loss ($3.1 billion total loss Q1-Q3)

Negative EBIT margin of -75.6%

Ford says "many North America customers interested in buying EVs are unwilling to pay premiums for them over gas or hybrid vehicles, sharply compressing EV prices and profitability."

Sales 101
You don't push an inferior product
It's always the alpines and the kickers before the pioneers and Kenwood's when you sold car audio in the 2000s
Then there are the Duals which were bottom of the barrel
EVs are somewhere between that and a cheap Kenwood deck
