Nice one, DC. You and Ed are seriously upping the ante here with these BIF shots.

I aspire to get that kind of lightning shot.

This is definitely not a single shot. Excellent composite. Or if it is a single shot, you hit the lightning lottery!!!

I love how clear and crisp the sky, stars, huge lightning bolt above the clouds, and top of the lit up clouds are.

Down here in Miami, I can only dream to get a shot that clear with all the light pollution we have.

thanks guys.
i was watching this clouds for about 2 hours and took 30s exposures but at one point it became so intense that i had to take 10s exposures because the thunders came so often. all around it clear skies. it didnt even rain..

super excited when i got this one, i saw it in the back screen and it was perfect already, just added contrast. the stars helped in framing, the mushroom effect on the cloud. it all worked out. its all up to nature, i was lucky (and patient) enough to get it.

A couple of weeks ago, I uncovered our cockatiels and they went into absolute panic. I couldn't figure out what was going on as they were screaming and throwing themselves against the sides of the cage, then I saw a red-tail hawk, sitting, minding it's on business, on a grate above the window. I beat on the window and it flew away, restoring calm.

It's funny to observe shorebirds with osprey. The shorebirds know somehow that the osprey don't eat birds and will calmly sit there while one flies right over them. OTOH, an eagle or hawk will result in widespread panic.

I could see why your little birds would not be happy! I have noticed that about Osprey too.
Also, the Osprey around here anyway don't seem to bothered by humans, diving in for a fish just fee from the pier.

On another note, I would love it if red-tails would land in my yard!

Great shot, Ed. Very cool that you have so many critters to pose for you.

I shot a football game for the first time this weekend. Like shooting BIF, it takes patience and planning. With the 400 5.6 and the Siggy 120-300 with the 2x extender, it was like trying to follow the action while looking through a paper towel core. I managed a few decent shots, though.

Looks like a solid effort to me Mark. Other than car racing, I have never tried shooting sports. I imagine it would take some practice to have an idea where the big plays will be.

It must be my lucky day. I woke up to find that my above elk shot got explored, that's two in as many days for me, and I just got a call from my local shop that my 7D2 is in and awaiting pickup! Looks like I'm taking the long way home from work tonight

You can pick it up today!? I'm jealous. I'll save the 8% sales tax and, hopefully, get mine on Friday. You will already be up on me by 2,000 shots!

I asked B&H for next-day delivery and they gave it to me, without charge, which surprised me. I called Customer Service and they confirmed that it would be deliver in one-day with no extra charge. Not sure how that happened. They offer free "Expedited" delivery, but that only means next-day for the area around New Jersey and three-days to Colorado.

BTW, I saw an announcement that DPP is updated to include the 7D MkII. You'd expect that, but the preview reviewers didn't have a Raw converter, so they were showing in-camera JPEGs. I'm very anxious to see some high-ISO files.

Yeah I will have to re-learn DPP until LR gets updated. It will be too dark by the time I get it to do much. I will charge the battery up tonight and take it with me tomorrow to give it a good test spin.

The user interface with DPP is much improved. Be sure to load your lenses into the Digital Lens Optimization model.
