What would the percent gains have been if there was a theoretical trade?

Subscribing... I'm just getting my feet wet and going slowly. Got very few bucks in the market and just starting to learn - hopefully the lessons won't hurt too much. I'm only long trading now to keep it simple. Any guidance on call and put options (the process and research, not actual stocks) that I can get started with?

Keep an eye on NVDA. Today NVDA is taking a beating. NVDA is good to buy on dips but I would not buy just yet. Ford is good and strong at the moment. I reckon Ford should see further gains unless of course the whole market tanks. MPEL is quite strong today because of the news out of Macau. WYNN finished up around 10% in hong-Kong and I doubt earnings from LVS will disappoint. I think LVS will most likely see further gains unless of course the whole market sells off. It is now quite possible that the market sells off.

I've been watching NVDA for about a month and saw it getting slammed today and bought some on the dip. I've got sell orders for my current stocks if they drop below a certain price that I guess I would call "OMG let's get out now" time.

Expat, what reason do you see it possible for a market sell off? Just curious.

Did you look at SPY? Google is weak and so is the whole tech sector today but BIDU is quite bullish. I had wanted to buy MCP last week but did not have the balls to chase and buy. Sure enough because I did not buy the Fuc*er is up today.

Honestly, I have not followed up on that one so I am afraid I am unable to help you with that one. Maybe someone else here has followed it more closely.

5.4% is nice but had you bought calls you would have been up a good 100% on the weekly calls or 50% on the April calls. Right before 2nd quarter earnings good stocks usually run up and bad stocks down depending on how good their earnings are supposed to come in at.

MPEL had a nice run today. I'm still trying to figure out why OVTI plunged so hard today. I think most of the people who were shorting Silver have already been taken to the cleaners. What I think may be possible soon is that if we see another session or 2 of gains for SLV to enter a short position with some puts. Long term I am long on Silver and believe it will continue to climb but for those who like to gamble buying some puts at $39.5-40 may pay off but it is a gamble.

Can you explain to me how to buy these calls? I'm still just a noob and researching/investing into shares. Hrmm... My Portfolio picks are fairly decent, they pulled in ~4.1k in the last 3 trading days (only been trading for the last 3 trading days xD). I'd love to maximize the profit on the good picks I have now, but Im not entirely sure how to long/short or purchase "calls"...

As I had figured Macau casinos outperform so Wynn,LVS and MPEL all should do well. WYNN in HK had a nice pope and LVS had one last week in the US. I still believe LVS is due for another pop soon due to earnings. Whether it pops before,on or after earnings I'm not sure but if I were to guess I would guess that it would make a run or pop this week or next. Earnings from LVS this quarter should be very very good. WYNN in the US also did not move yet so it should move as well.

If market tanks though all bets and calls are off. These gains are based on the market holding steady and not crashing. At the moment SPY looks weak and the market looks like it drop or dip. Futures are currently down but just barely. Hard to tell from futures now because they usually change after European and Asian markets close. Manipulation as usual.

I would learn a bit more about them first. They are really high risk and you could lose all your money if they expire or you make a wrong call. If you have time you may want to take a course on options. At one time when I was new to trading options I lost my rear trading options but have learned my lesson now with trading options. If you are not sure it is better to stick with just stock shares this way if you make a mistake you can just wait it out for as long as needed.

I was looking into them just now. Basically, let's suppose I purchase a contract for 100 shares at $2.50 a piece ($250). The shares jump from 50 to 60 bucks. I sell all the 100 shares at 100x10 = 1000 - 2.50x100 = $750 profit. Had I just purchased the stocks I could have made the full $1000. I still don't see how I could've made 100% on BIDU.

Though it is interesting securing 100 shares at pennies to the dollar, really. Bit scared by the fact that I either win/lose my ass when the contract expires tho. At least with shares I can take a lose at 1-5% and put a stop price on them...

I was reading up about it here - they dumb it down pretty well. I see how it can have huge potential for gain and loss. http://www.investopedia.com/universi...ns/default.asp

For now I think I'll stay with long trading and play it safe and learn how to fully research everything before getting much into options.

Looks like Silver may turn around on Tuesday. I'm going to make a small gamble and enter into SLV puts at opening bell.

So far Silver is on another run now today so those that had bought SLV should be happy campers today as them calls are paying off now. I did not add any calls or get the chance to buy any puts earlier on when the market opened and now that I see how bullish Silver is I'm not sure I will buy them puts just yet.

Apple is looking weak today.

Looks like LVS is showing solid gains today. No major pop today but good gains non the less. My weekly calls are up nicely today

http://www.google.com/finance/option_chain?q=NYSE:LVS

Volume and interest for the $44 and $45 weekly calls seems good today. Might be a trap but so far the gains are good and volume is up there. I think many people know that LVS earnings won't miss this quarter.
