Agree. I love this new wagon but doesn’t top a nice RS6 Avant Perf.

Uhhh... The M5 (based on XM) will get 12mpg city, 17mpg highway. The RS6 gets 14mpg city, 22mpg highway. Not sure where the PHEV is a huge plus?

I don’t really care about fuel efficiency. My daily commute is only a few miles, so well within the EV range.

My father-in-law got in a shootout at a gas station (he is fine, the person that attempted to murder him not so much), so I REALLY don’t like going to get gas in town. Pulling over on a road trip is fine, just would love to reduce gas station visits in the city.

I do hope the M5 Touring gets some kind of air suspension, at least in the rear. I hate the look when you haul stuff in the back and it is squatted down.

That and soft close doors are two things that I will miss from the RS6.

For me it’s that I’m waiting for my X5 M50i to come off lease and then I hope to get into a wagon. Still don’t know which one, but by looks alone I’m leaning RS6.

The Audi RS6 Avant is definitely a standout from a design aspect, even for those who aren’t typically Audi enthusiasts

Its blend of performance and practicality, combined with its aggressive yet sleek design, makes it a favorite for many. The Satin Sand finish from the Audi Exclusive range adds a unique and sophisticated touch, giving the car a luxurious and aggressively understated appearance.

The wheels, which do have that concept car vibe, perfectly complement the overall design, making the RS6 Avant look both futuristic and refined. It’s a car that commands attention, whether parked or in motion.

This is the best M5 possible in 2024 - in this transitional period. Next M5 will be full electric for sure, and it will be lighter, faster, more reliable, and more timeless.

It's impossible to give an official mpg number for PHEVs, as people use them very differently for very different results.

There's a world of difference between an owner who plugs it everyday and another who never plugs in. For someone who plugs it everyday and use it for short distances most of the time the mpg results can be incredible.

Looks much more cohesive as a wagon than a sedan IMO.

Just wish we got the a version of the car that wasn't a EU Zero Emission Zone compliance model in the US... Unfortunately, those of us who have no use for owning a car that has to fit this compliance are severely penalized with this generation

Looks great! Design language works so much better on the wagon. Was wondering why the side profile looked a little strange — its the different diameter wheels front and back. For some reason it works on the coupe/sedan M cars, but on a this it looks completely cartoonish.

Hold your horses there.

There is not a clear demand or direction for electric-only performance cars. It’s a mixed bag, there is no way to see full electric going forward in higher ends. All auto manufacturers are back tracking on their plans of going full ev. Porsche is focusing more there but there is enough ICE scope left.

If another data point matters. The Rimac Nevera will not be produced anymore because they could only secure fifty instead of the one-hundred-fifty orders. Though it’s a $2m all electric super car, ten times more expensive than the pimped up M5.

In the world we are there is a mysterious obsession with going all electric, nobody is going on track with 6K Kg of kerb weight. Batteries ain’t getting feather light with some magic wand

Damn, now that is sexy!

Nice write up by the way too. You sound like you are one of those girls from the auto show describing the car. That or Chat GTP. Either way nice wheels. I think this is the way to go.

I just saw it in person this morning at the BMW Villa at Pebble Beach. No phones allowed and had to sign an NDA as well.

They have both the sedan and the touring in the same garage. Seeing the Frozen Dark Gray sedan next to the Isle of Man Green touring I agree with some of the comments here not the best launch color for this car.
The wheels are also not my cup of tea. The sedan has the black wheels which IMO look much better for this car.

I’m sure it will sell well initially, the question is what will the numbers look like in the second year…

Surely the M5 sedan & wagon will be lighter than the XM. I would expect 20mpg on the highway minimum.

Side view looks stunning but not sure of the rear, don’t like the paintwork in the middle dropping that low it looks odd. Not that I’ll ever be wealthy enough for that to be an issue lol

I was looking forward to the wagon but unfortunately the sedan looks more tolerable. The middle of the rear bumper is an annoying design feature. The wheels are not aggressive nor good looking.
