A little but...

Anyone experiencing HDTV wide-screen problems? I've found other people on the Bungie forums with the same prob but no real solution. It looks like it was a similar prob for Halo 2 and a patch was eventually released to address it.

In short, I'm unable to play at 16:9 to effectively take up the whole screen when we're playing 2-player co-op/MM/etc. It puts our screens in the middle and frames the rest with black bars. Apparently this prob existed during the H3 beta as well.

I got a 46" Sony Bravia XBR2. 360's set for 1080p, using the HDMI cable. No issues with other games. GoW doesn't have this prob, but apparently they increased the Field of View (FOV) to achieve this (which some people claimed was an advantage over fullscreen players).

Anyway it's annoying. I can use my tv's Wide Zoom mode to remedy the problem but once I switch back to the main menu everything is off and I have to switch to Full mode on the tv. My HUD nade count was also getting cut off in Wide Zoom but I fixed that.

*edit: zooming obviously stretches the image. Seems some people in that thread find maintaining the 16:9 ratio more important and don't mind the black bars.

i think i am also experiencing something with my 360 as well. i have the 52" sony bravia xbr3 and the red colors for example are shown on my screen like yellow. when i used to play 360 on my old tv like enchant arms, the colors were there like red on the clothes, etc but now on the bravia the colors are like yellow and pale...

to confirm in halo 3 at the end part when you are getting cortana was the walls of the cave yellow where the eggs where and stuff?

PS: can someone please clarify the ending of h3 lol.

There's a tv calibration guide on the limited edition "essentials" disc, maybe try that? Although I don't recall it going through color specifically. I didn't have to tweak my settings much.

I'm thinking of getting one, but noticed Best Buy had two versions of the XBox360. One was the "Halo Edition," and the other, the standard edition. Halo Edition is 399.95 and standard, 349.95 (I think). Standard edition comes with two free games, and the Halo Edition is simply black color. No other difference? Both seem to have the same hardware and memory. So the extra 50 bucks gets you black with less.

If that's the case then the Halo edition sounds like a ripp off to me. Have you checked out Costco or Sam's Club to see if they have a 360 for cheaper?

Hmm not sure what you saw but the Halo edition is actually an olive/orange colored console for $400: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x...le/default.htm

It comes with HDMI and the exclusive Halo colors (which I think looks nasty) for the console, controllers, headset etc.

The only black console currently is the Elite, which is $450 and has HDMI capability with a 120GB HD.

The other editions are colored white and they are the Core (no HD) for $280 and the Pro (20GB HD) for $350 but neither have HDMI support.

I see. You're right about the color scheme. Still, I noticed both the Xbox 360 and Halo Edition have the 20GB hard drive. Microsoft is real coy at mentioning the 20GB hard drive with the Halo Edition, while being a bit more quiet about this same hard drive (20GB) in the standard XBox 360. The casual passerby comparing the two might think he's getting more with the Halo Edition.

As far as I can tell, the difference is the skin of the console essentially. Plus you get two fewer games and pay more.

Other than the colors is the HDMI capability in the Halo edition. The only other one with HDMI capability is the Elite... for now anyway. A rep at EB Games told me they're supposedly gonna be putting HDMI support in the regular editions also, perhaps by Xmas, but I dunno how accurate that info is. If HDMI isn't a necessity I suggest going with the Pro edition.

I bought Halo 3 about 4 weeks ago and still haven't taken it out of the plastic haha. I bought Tiger 08 the same day and can't seem to take it out. It's all I want to play when I have a chance.
