It's interesting. I'm a little hesitant to hear their plans. They are coming out with flashy names for them, which leads me to believe that you'll pay a monthly fee for it since you want to upgrade once a year instead of once every 2. Overall I am concerned it'll cost more money in the end. Who knows.

Me too. It's getting old.

As I said, I loved my iPhone except for the battery issue. That was the only issue I've ever had with any iPhone I owned. My wife had a Motorola that had horrible issues. She got an iPhone 5 and loves it. After I got the S4 and was walking out of the store, I saw the HTC One and thought twice. I think if I gave too much thought to it, the decision would be more difficult. The phones are all very similar in what they can do anyway, so I'm glad I just kind of made my choice on a whim.

From what I have read about it, you do end up paying for the ability to upgrade once a year( or every 6 months with T-Mobile).

It's just another way the carriers are milking more money out of us.

I'm fine upgrading every two years especially with the way Apple updates are. The jump from 4->4S or 5->5s is never big. You get the same design, but with refinement. But the jumps from 4->5 or 4S -> 5s will be big. New design, tech, etc.

Android phones haven't changed the way we use our phones. People may prefer Android phones over the iPhone because their features are more attractive to them, but they haven't revolutionized or innovated anything. It's still the same basic formula the original iPhone laid out.
Why are you discussing the original iPhone? Live in the nowwwww. Apple is no long innovative. Biometrics don't belong on a personal device (I work on the largest biom system in the world). It's a gimmick to sell more phones because their innovation is stagnant. Android phones are advancing at a much faster rate than iPhone.

What do you mean advancing faster than the iPhone? What is making Android phones more innovative?

I'm discussing the original iPhone because there hasn't been innovation in the smartphone market since 2007. Don't hold Apple on a high pedestal of expecting innovation for every phone when Android makers aren't innovating either.

They are all still working off the original iPhone's formula. No one has changed it yet.

Exactly. Android phones may have bigger screens, but that isn't innovating. Bigger batteries? Not innovating.

I'm not seeing how Android makers are running away with the market in "innovations". If you prefer Android, fine. I am not arguing over which is better as that's personal preference. If you think the features on a Samsung, HTC, etc are better than the iPhone that's fine too. But, stop with the BS.

There are two features some Android phones have that I would consider as advancements, though not necessarily innovations. Those are LTE network compatibility and NFC (near field communication). NFC can allow your phone to become a "virtual wallet" and then pay for things via a contactless payment system. This is something I know many iPhone users were hoping for. On the flip side, iOS 7 becoming a 64-bit OS is an advancement over the Android OS.

iPhone has LTE now( has had it since the 5). The reason why Android phones had it first was because LTE at first required a compromise Apple wasn't willing to make. The first generation of LTE radios were power hungry and didn't integrate GSM and CDMA into them. That required Android phones to have two radios, one for LTE and one for GSM/CDMA. Apple wasn't willing to do that. But, now that LTE radios have GSM/CDMA built into them as well, Apple put LTE in the iPhone.

As for NFC, like LTE a few years ago, it hasn't matured yet. Right now the biggest NFC function right now has been S beam with Samsung phones. The potential is there, but I don't think Apple will put it in iPhones until it reaches maturity.

That has been a well established principal of Apple. They will not get into a spec sheet race( why iPods for a long time didn't have a FM tuner) and they will not implement a technology that they feel is not ready to be implemented.

lolol.... hear it is addictive... my buddy rear-ended a car and denies playing but I think he was!

it is time for me to roll on up from the i4.... which honestly has not been bad, but battery life and speed are factors I would wish to improve. the gray looks cool too!

I can understand waiting on a new technology until it has matured, though there are some people who always prefer being on the bleeding edge. Holding out on the FM tuner for the iPods still baffles me though. An FM tuner is simple and mature tech, so why hold back if the customers are asking for it?

It's not about whether the tech is mature. IMO it's a strategic decision. Apple is deeply involved in the music industry, so putting an FM tuner in their products would, IMO, cannibalize their iTunes sales.

I think I'll probably get the 5s, I have a 4 right now, the only thing I don't like is it doesn't come in all black. I've been due for an upgrade for a whole but just didn't see anything that peeked my interest. I was went and looked at the galaxy s4 and it felt cheap, I looked at the 5 also and I like it but I just decided not to get it. I went and looked at them earier this week and I tell you what, if I had bought the 5 that week I'd be pissed right now lol.

I think they have a 14-30 day return policy no? But yeah those that don't follow the news and went out to get a 5 would be kicking themselves right now.

I actually like the white version on the 5C too. It's reminiscent of the 3GS.

the best part of the 5s is that the going rate for other phones ("old" iphone 5, galaxy s4, etc.) in the used market plummet, so I can hopefully pick one up in the $300 range in the coming weeks

Well I know if I'm unlocking my iphone when I'm driving
I'd much prefer just holding my thumb over the home button
Than having to type a 4 or 6 digit code
And I hate having to retype my iTunes password Everytime I am buying software from the App Store
If that's all the benefit I get out of the fingerprint sensor
That's good enough for me
Plus with the fingerprint sensor, the market for stolen iPhones will shrink big time. Because without that finger print, that stolen iphone is now worthless

And now I'm not worried about typing my unlock code in front of my wife
