Mini's get great gas mileage... just something to consider if he's gonna be feeling the pinch from paying for it by himself. I totally would have loved a Mini when I was his age. I mean ultimately its his decision I guess? I don't think he can go wrong with any of those choices... but it's more fun to convert people to the Bavarian Brotherhood haha

A Mini cooper is okay as long as you "man it up" with sum mods from John cooper, AC-Schnitzer etc;

My Mini is one of the best cars I have ever driven and owned. Its funny how people can make negative comments about the car based on what they have heard or what people have told them. I can tell you one thing though, I wont trade my Mini for some 350Z, a WRX thing, or even that Mazda because my 435 hp Subaru lost that battle a few years ago. Heres a few pics of my Mini... and the Subaru that I built, then sold. What makes Mini Coopers so cool is that fact that they can be what ever the owner wants it to be.

I think Mini's were very gay in the beginning, first when they came out.
But now they are really cool cars, especially the S model.
I sure your son would enjoy it

Depends on what color and wheels the car has will determine if the Mini is gay-looking.

Btw, I'd love to have a Mini Cooper S if I'm 16 years old!

Mini Coopers are definitely not gay. Here are pics of the 2003 MCS that i used to have. You can do alot of things to this car. They even have an aftermarket twin charged kit that makes this car a 300 + horsepower beast.

Mods: Blue Flame Catback exhaust
17" Tenzo Racing wheels. The wheels are 15 lbs each
Alta 17% supercharger reduction pulley
Alta Cold Air Intake

um, my advice would be to make him get a job and buy his own car, learn the value of money and responsibility instead of spoiling him like half the shmucks on this site...

and also buying a WRX or a 350Z for a 16 year old is probably the stupidest parenting decision i have ever heard of... that's just my opinion though.. just as bad as some people who buy their kids Ms and AMGs... i really dont feel bad at all when i read another story about some douche kid totalling daddy's porsche.. in fact it makes me feel similar to the way i feel when i see the stock market crashing like it is... satisfied... what goes around comes around remember that.

PS the mini cooper is a great car... very involving, small, fun to drive, and pretty quick... only limitation is FWD and the interior is kinda shitty.

I understand where your coming from, but in my eyes I focus on getting my son a safe car, not some 86' Corolla with no airbags. I am just getting the loan for my son as he has not built up credit, but he will pay for the gas, insurance, and monthly payments.

Just because someone grew up a hard way doesn't mean everyone else should.

Buy him a used Lexus IS250. They're rocks. They look good. They are decently quick. Sweet interiors (with my 335i came with a Lexus interior). And very safe. Plus you can get one in the mid to low twenty's.

70% with 10k/year (assuming S model).......even then, let's do some math:

LOW end MSRP of $21,950.....we'll even use that as the adjusted cap cost (assuming you coverd other fees etc at drive off)

Residual is $15,365
Best Case Scenario MF is .00229

21950-15365=6585 Divided by 36 months it's about $182.92
Then add rental charge @ .00229 21950+15365=37315 x .00229=$85.45

So BEST CASE SCENARIO the payment currently on an S (assuming no other dealer charges, tax, registration, MACO, dealer markup, etc) you'd be paying around $268................so please explain to me how you'd get to $207 again? With no money down on a 3 year Cooper S lease expect to pay mid 300's, at least.

I went for invoice.

Also, check this link out.

http://www.ridewithg.com/index.php/2...9-mini-cooper/

Barely anyone is their right mind should not buy a car for MSRP in this market lol.

EDIT: Also you have to add 2 percent instead of 1 percent more residual if you think about 12k miles a year instead of 15k a year.

I mean hell, my 335i coupe that I paid 49,~~~ for costs me 499 a month with 800 down and MSD's.

You may not find a dealer selling a MINI at invoice. These cars have sold at or near MSRP since first introduced.

See the latest sales numbers:

Quote:
MINI USA reported October sales of 5,272 automobiles, up 56.4 percent from the 3,370 cars sold in October 2007. Year-to-date, the division reported sales of 45,966 automobiles, an increase of 30.2 percent, compared to the 35,306 cars reported in the first ten months of 2007.
Also, the options can add up quicky. But still a great car for the money IMHO.

I was hanging out with a female friend of mine earlier today and she happened to talk about a guy she just recently started dating. She said she really wasn't sure about him, and I asked "why?" and she said "because he drives a mini, doesn't that seem weird to you? It's a chick car."

I started because I remember seeing this thread earlier.

I wish my daddy thought a safe car was a WRX or a 350z. Nope, it was a Honda Accord for me. 16 year olds don't need to go fast, there are plenty of safe reliable cars that don't involve large engines.

She's a chick, what does she know about cars.
