It’s wide and looks special, plus it’s big enough for 4 people. Anything bigger is going to be a fast boat.

My R8 has CCB and I have put 2200 miles on it and never washed the wheels once. You can wipe the wheels with white gloves and not get a speck of dirt on them.
I dunno…but comparing an R8 and an M5…sorta different. Ones cool. Ones fat.
Spend money on the brakes won’t change that.
When you all saw the picture of the RS6 Avant, you said ‘hell that’s sexy’. When you saw the new M5, you said ‘not bad for BMW’. Don’t lie.

Yeah, except that 3 and 4 series have never been luxurious enough for me.
I wanted the M5 because it has all the nice stuff on it but still performs great.
Now it performs OK and is missing a bunch of features.

The M3/4 with buckets and full leather feels premium, at least initially.

But for approx the same $$ as the M5, the S8 seems like a better buy even considering the inferior handling characteristics. Hate to say it. But it’s simpler, lighter, and feels luxurious. Rear reclining seats and 3.6s to 60mph.

The S8 is a nice car but honestly both BMW and Mercedes drive better, at least on the highway. But BMW didn't have anything cool on the roster and it would have been really hard to find an S580 with the options I wanted. So Audi won that battle.

And clearly BMW has nothing like the R8. That's just a whole different level of coolness.
Did you consider an M8 when your lease on the M5 matured?

Honest question, why would this car be more attractive than say a Caddilac CT5 Blackwing? Specifically from a drivers point of view? Wouldn't the Caddilac be the "drivers" car?

I believe they’re referencing a Diamond B&W system, like what was offered before and offered in other premium cars like the X5M and XM. Then offerings used to be hifi, HK and then B&W. Now it’s just hifi with a non-top tier B&W upgrade.

Yes the 5BW is more of a driver's car. I think the G90 is moving the M5 somewhat out of the market segment it arguably created decades ago. I wanted the 5BW or an F90. My main reasons for picking the F90 were more luxury features, AWD, and just a change (since I had a 04 V for 5 years and a 09 for 14). Now that the G90 is ditching a lot of its luxury features I wonder what it is trying to be. There was a good C&D comparo between the F90, 5BW, and RS7. The F90 was in the middle as the best mix of luxury and performance, which is what the M5 was always supposed to be about. Now they have lost a lot of luxury, and at least on paper performance too.

But really BMW is a leasing company, and while maybe the M cars were "rare" back in the day now they are just another way to get more leases. The G90 is new and different, the badge still carries weight, and that will be enough to outsell the F90 I think. And when all cars are bloated hybrids or soulless EVs this car will probably seem even better.

I think a lot of what seems like hate is really just disappointment. I think any M5 fan deep down wanted the G90 to seem better in every way and be something work lusting after. And while we might say BMW has lost its way maybe this car really is just a sign of the times and how for some of us the "good old days" are gone.

All the more reason to drive the wheels off whatever car you enjoy owning. Time will eventually kill all cars as much as mileage, so drive it the most when it is newest and in its prime.

Wild how you can check every box available right now and end up 25k+ less than what some fully loaded individual builds cost on the F90 - this will sell

I have the F90 M5. I was expecting to be the first in line to buy the new M5 before it was released.

Currently, I couldn't find one legit reason to upgrade. Despite all the shortcoming of this generation, the car feels soooooooo cheap. It is like I'm building a Camry.

No rear climate control in fully loaded M5? ROFL!
No leather on dashboard or doors?
No Soft closing doors?
No seats massage?

I checked the sound system in the i5 M60, and it is EXTREMELY crappy.
Why is BMW cheaping out this car to this extent!

Do they intentionally want it to be epic fail in terms of sales?

Finally someone saying something that is backed by data and resembles reality.

I'll say this again; all the people hating on this car, IF they can afford one, will be driving one in the next 2 years.

I did, but not very seriously. A few reasons why the M8 never ranked highly for me:

1. Too similar to the F90 while being considerably more expensive, while simultaneously being less convenient. i.e. a 2 seat car vs. a 5 seat car.

2. I never liked how the M8 looks. The profile is too similar to a Ford Mustang.

3. I also do not like the interior. The console and dash are far more claustrophobic than the F90.

4. I do not like the Gran Coupe as an automotive segment. If I want a sedan then I will buy a sedan that has a useful back seat. Otherwise, get a coupe. I don't need a car that tries to be both while being great at neither.

I ended up buying a 2023 R8 and leasing a 2023 S8.

- They added 550e xDrive for the American Market finally! Again, still can’t add the Dynamic Handling Package on that one either. LAME!!

- They updated the i5 too. This one made me scratch my head: The 2025 i5 M60 model now has the option for the Dynamic Handling Package, and it comes with Adaptive M suspension and Active Roll Stabilization but now it costs a whopping $3,600 bucks! That’s highway robbery! Considering you can option a base 330i with the DH for only $1050 bucks, although no ARS system included. - Additionally in the 2025 i5 M60 you can add Individual Full Leather: Dark Violet/Atlas Grey and Taupe/Atlas Grey, both of which look fantastic but looking closer at the configurator I can’t see any differences or additional leather or cross stitching to the dash or upper door trims. Can you add 4-zone via a package? If not, packaging is clearly different north of the US border. 4-zone climate control is standard in CDN market cars, and I also noticed we don’t have the same number of interior options. Only silverstone, all black, black/orange, and red/black, all merino leather.

The carbon interior trim is a $1k touch . And my build is $180k CDN before taxes and fees haha.

Nope 4-Zone is not in any package for the American Market. But we should still be able to put in a special order from the factory for the option. Some American customers have already done this for 4-Zone on their G60’s, we just have to wait longer for our cars to get built with it. But no U.S. dealers will have G90 M5’s in their lots with the 4-Zone already special ordered.

that’s kind of what i meant, they’re for anyone who wants to track this from time to time but doesn’t want to go with brembos or whatever steel options are out there. that’s honestly very few people tho, you’re right. using these for dedicated tracking would be insane

not arguing about whether these will sell, but checking every option currently available from the order sheet gets you to around $133k. a fully loaded individual G90 will obviously be even more, not to mention this is currently the base model (although nothing beyond this is confirmed yet). I think it’s priced reasonably? but not sure it’s priced well enough *compared to the F90* to be remarkable.

I think what’s truly remarkable is the degree of performance and tech that you get compared to other manufacturers in this segment. then I can see the argument
