Matt paint looks great in the show room but in the real world, after they get covered in road dust, dead bugs, etc. They look really bad, like it was normal paint and the clear coat wore off.

Has that aspect of matt paint been fixed? Are they easy to wash and clean now? Can I buff out scratches over time?

Matte paint is very difficult to care for:

You cannot buff it.
You cannot polish it.
You cannot wash it at an automatic car wash.
You cannot use chemicals like Iron-X or water spot remover.
Hand wash only, with specially formulated car soap only.
Never wipe it with towels for any reason. Dry with a blow dryer for cars.
You need to wash matte paint more frequently than gloss.
No clear coat so things like bird crap or tree sap will do damage sooner.

Bottom line, it's a complete PITA. The only way I would ever get a matte finish car would be for a non-daily-driver. If you drive a matte car daily and let it get rained on, snowed on, road-salted, etc.... it's going to be tough to keep it pristine.

Can you say “paint protection film?” All of what you wrote goes away.

They did that for slightly more tire sidewall. This provides more road impact/imperfections Absorption for a less harsh right quality.

Looks good to me.

Matte paint cannot be buffed.

The only way to make it easy to wash and maintain it’s nice looks is to PPF the whole car. Matte PPF is durable and will protect the paint from chips and you can easily wash the car. Of course hand wash only even with matte ppf. Personally I stay away from matte paint because when they are dirty or slightly dust on it they don’t look good at all.

Buy a used GTC4Lusso instead of this
My guess is your cost per month after 3-4 years will be the same but the Ferrari will bring many more smiles.

They are probably saving that for the “CS” version. They gotta save some stuff for that.

I rather get the x5m over this if I had the budget to step up to a 5 series M car.

The pricepoint being so close to the sedan is such a fantastic move by BMW on this one, really just a choice between which you prefer, the sedan or the touring. Very excited to see the sedans hit dealers in the late fall and touring models in early 2025

It's not the B&W Diamond system, it's a basic B&W Surround Setup with 655W that compares to last years Harmon Kardon. Hopefully they add it in at a later date.

25 miles of range?

How long do these normally take to charge? Curious.....

I didn't realize the range was so low on these. What a waste to add 900 pounds on for....25 miles?

Saw the ol’ gal in the metal today, stunning imo. Even the wheels, look like a PITA to clean but they’re like jewelry. Good 3D shape to them.

Yes, I am quite familiar with PPF as I have been using it for many years. My R8 has a full body PPF job, but it's incredibly expensive to do and I would only do it for a car that I plan to own for many years.

An M5 would not be a long-term car for me, so I would never spend the money for a full wrap. A front end wrap for protection, sure. But not a full body.

Bottom line for me is that matte PPF does not look as good as real matte paint. I have seen a lot of cars with it, and it just never has impressed me the same as a true matte paint.

it's not that bad, and there's chemicals for it made by Dr. Beasely's like a paint deconditioner, ceramic coats, cleaner, touch-up cleaner, soap etc.

You can drag a towel over the wet paint it's not that delicate, yes in general you want to minimize friction on it but its tough enough to handle damp micofiber towels. In my experience and others I've read it's actually a pretty tough paint finish.

My understanding is that BMW matte paint has a clear coat.

Thinking about switching my G90 deposit to this.

Any word on delivery timelines? Imagine this will be several months behind the first batch of G90s in the US, so are we talking Q2 '25??

The new M5 Touring will generate all kinds of opinions on both sides of “want it yesterday” and “can’t believe BMW …”.

And the opinions will continue to arrive.

It’s fairly evident that the new M5 Touring already has enough buyers to clear the first year supply. And that’s what really counts.

1-2 hours on a L2 or maybe 4-8 hours on a 110v outlet.

So plugging in all the time to realize the benefits of the E motor.

If it has to be plugged in anyway, just give me an i5 touring without the complicated hybrid drive and ICE. I don’t need the extra parts.
