No, it wasn't a gated community or anything either, just nicer houses.

Why would you ever want to live in a place that hits over 100 degrees on average every day of the week in the summer and is essentially a desert? Just curious..

What are you talking about? Half the people in the world want to live in Cali where its 100+ everyday..In some areas. It only averages 100+ 3 months out of the year in Phoenix and they all have very low humidity. I would prefer that over out 10 degree winters in Illinois without question. We just hate harsh winters.

Do you have to live in that particular area to get into the club house and gym or how does that work? Thanks again!

I dunno. Huge suburban complexes surrounded by barren desert don't really appeal to me I guess.

http://phoenix.about.com/od/weather/a/averagetemps.htm
it seems rather low

all the temps reported on that site seem about 10 degrees too low

What does everyone think of Surprise AZ? Far enough away from the hustle and bustle but most things are close enough that nothing is a far drive. From what I have researched anyways.

I live in Peoria. but az is great IMO. Its half a days drive to vegas or LA and mexico is still near by if you have the desire. Flagstaff arizona is also a place you can go to the slopes.

^ go for any of those. Great cities. Clean and money.

Albuquerque is just gross and all native american. I would HATE living there.
People are gross, rude, inconsiderate, despicable. The town is gross and ugly.
No good restaurants or anything.

If your parents have some $$ to drop on a house and want amazing views, tell them to move to Paradise Valley.

This is also true but some of the smaller cities can be considered better in ways then paradise valley or scottsdale.

Decided on albuquerque, living in a small area now, I think it would be just to much of a shock going to a huge city like Phoenix. I don't think I would enjoy sitting in traffic for 1-2 hours a day getting to work living in a suburb of Phoenix. And its just so damn hot, I was just wrong earlier in my posts, its boiling there. Its beautiful, and Im not trying to offend anyone that lives in AZ. Im sure a lot of people don't like Albuquerque. I think I will just enjoy 4 mild seasons. As much as a hate to say it I think I would miss a cool winters coming from IL. Albuquerque is big enough that I don't think I would ever get bored but not so big that I have to worry about insane traffic everyday. Houses around Phoenix are insanely cheap though! $300,000 will get you a BEAUTIFUL home.
