From Iceland. I was not lucky with the sun. Too cloudy for a really great shot.

Um, I would give this the "really great shot" label in a heartbeat. Lots of drama in that sky. I like it. Well done.

We had some pretty big waves along the coast this week. I always take a few days along with Veteran'd day for a fall vacation and this year did wine country and the Sonoma coast.

My meager attempt from an awesome drive yeaterday. It was breathtaking and the vantage point I took this from was at a very deep precipice.

I attempted super moon photos last night and I must say, it was one of the most difficult subjects I have ever photographed. I think I have maybe one or two that turned out ok, but neither are a good as the above. I just wish I had a bit of editing skills to see what I could make out of what I did get.
Thanks for the inspiration...

Looking at the information on these two photos, I think my issue was with ignorance of my camera. I was unable to get it to go to anything higher than 250, I started at f11 and went down to f6.5, but I think the two best were f10 and f11. Also it amazes me how small it is even with a 300mm.

Steve

Mark and Ed, I'm so jealous of your super supermoon shots. We had so much cloud in the East, just nothing worked, saw a brief glow on the horizon and that was it !!
Looking south and west about 15 minutes after sunset, whilst setting up (more in hope than anger) for the moon, I did get this sunset shot.

Just After Sunset by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

Lots more great shots from everyone on here.

^^^I'd take the gorgeous sunset shot over my run-of-the-mill moonshot any day, Alan. Superb.

Agreed, great shot Alan.

Steve, in regards to shooting the moon, you have to use manual control, it's far too bright and will fool the camera's meter every time. For a full moon, I always use f8 and 1/1000 as a starting point and then play with the shutter speed. I'm usually at ISO 400, but last night the moon was so freaking bright I pulled it down to ISO 200. Also, the moon is indeed a very small target, so massive cropping is applied to all my shots. That shot above is from a full frame 5DIV and cropped from some roughly 6000 pixels down to 2500 or so, even with a 700mm lens setup.
