I'd imagine they could've have figured something out, although the MK V is too heavy for its size, anyways. It somehow weighs a whole engine more than a Cayman.

Could they have? Even with a $30,000 'lightweight' track package, the RC-F still weighs 3800lbs.

If youre going to make to make apple to apples weight comparison, you have to option the Cayman appropriately. The Cayman weighs just shy of 3200lbs when optioned with an automatic and that's with the 2 way seats where the Supra has a 14 way. Toyota's sales department dropped the ball by including so many features standard making it look bloated on paper where as Porsche has very few options standard.

The Cayman weighs 3140 lbs with the auto, so you're still talking 250 lbs, and, depending on who you read, the weight savings of the 2- way vs. 14-way seats is anywhere from 20 to 50lbs, so we're still talking 200 lbs.

Either way, the Supra is heavy for its size, and, like you said, it apparently has too many options. When I had a Cayman, it was a manual with as few options as I could find. Heck, my Cayman only weighed around 2850 lbs, and I complained when the newer, heavier versions came out. I mean, my 135i only weighs 3300-3400lbs, and it has four usable seats and a trunk.

Yeah 200 pounds is definitely nothing scoff at, but it isn't the weight of an engine like you said before.

Thats kinda alot for a car smaller than the Supra

Those red mirrors they put on the "launch edition" cars look like complete trash. Why would you put red side mirrors on any car other than a red one? It's a joke.

99% of people who see that crap are going to think you're some low limit roller who went to the junkyard to replace broken mirrors, and are too cheap to paint them to match the body color. Carbon or body matching colors only please.

True but those aren't nearly as terrible. Honestly I didn't even know until you mentioned it, it's not like they're fire engine red and just screaming at you.

I'd probably look at the Z4m40i or whatever if it was 20k less, it's a nice looking car.

it also has a grill, vents, and other body panels in the color scheme

The Audi RS3 also have silver trim and mirror covers, but they did their homework and put the same finish in other areas as to not look like a junkyard special

The problem is that the public hears their decisions years after they were made when it is too late to go back on it. They asked Supra owners what they wanted and they said an inline 6 was the most important, so they gave them just that. Could there have been better decisions made? Absolutely, hindsight is 20/20. But that doesn't mean the decisions made were bad decisions by any means.
1000 times this.

Had they used a V6TT, they would have complained. You're right, the Fast and Furious fan boiz of the A80 weren't going to be happy with anything other than a newly built A80.

I also think it's funny someone talking about the weight. The A80 was what, 3500 lbs in mid-90s when there weren't all the crash/emission standards nor did cars have nearly as many amenities?

Newer, faster, nicer, safer, lighter.........."Why does Toyota hate us with the power of a million burning suns?!?!?!?!?"

Hey, there are some economy car 4-cyls that weigh in the 200lb'ish range. You could use it to power the Supra's front wheels!

Yep, the FD RX7 was 2,800 pounds and the C5 was around 3,250. The Supra was fat then, and it's fat now. Nothing new.

Yeah, but it's a little different when it's a 2-seater with a shorter wheelbase.

True, it should have lost a little weight, but it's got a shed load more safety gear and everything else is getting fatter these days, so why not?

Not to mention, the fully loaded a90 is only ~40lbs heavier than a 6mt 370z (according to C&D atleast) while also being 5 inches longer and an inch wider than the Z.

The Supra isn’t overweight IMO. C&D’s example came in at 3372.

You’re not getting much better than that for a twin turbo 6 cylinder car. Its chassis stiffness makes up for it.

My only true gripe is it having the ZF8(although great) instead of a standard DCT or having a manual option.

Comically far from a fair comparison, but a GT2 RS Weissach is supposed to be around 3,250 pounds. Just saying it can be done.

The wheelbase of the 370z is still a few inches longer than the Supra/Z4 twins. I'd imagine it drives like the bigger car. My 135i is the same way compared to my old Cayman. They're about the same length, but the 135i drives like a larger car, due to the longer wheelbase.

Not to get too pedantic, but it's not a twin turbo. It's a twin scroll, which is usually lighter.

A 991.2 Carrera with a turbo flat-6 and PDK had a listed weight of 3200 lb'ish, but I do agree that everything has gotten heavier. As I mentioned earlier, I used to complain that my 135i was too heavy, and it's a four seater that's 3350'ish.

I mean yeah but I cannot for the life of me think of how that is relevant to curb weight.

I just mean that, because of the long wheel base, I don't think of the 370Z to be in the same size category as something like a Cayman or new Z4, in terms of drivability. Same with my 135i, despite it being nearly the same length as the Z4.

I bring up the Z because it has always been the Supra's direct competitor and previously compared to the Cayman when looking at more economical alternatives
