Well said. Although 2008 and 2009 wasn't pretty, we're all still here, right?

The stock market is so yesterday.

Crypto currency is where it's at.

Bitcoin has gone up 1500% in 2017 alone.

I started investing in Bitcoin 2 mths ago and I'm up 30% already.

I'm referring to the inverse relationship between interest rates and the market value of bonds.

As you likely know, an increase in interest rates reduces the market value of any individual bonds that one might own or the bonds in a bond fund. The difference is that it's a non-issue if one intends to hold individual bonds to maturity, but with a bond fund there's no such thing as "holding to maturity," so the decrease in the fund's NAV has to be recognized.

any sane person can see stocks are in a bubble, but maybe there will never be a correction? since the last financial crisis, the federal reserve has basically been buying into the market through the major banks and whatnot, and since the fed has an unlimited money supply, perhaps the market will never tank. its a rigged system now.

With new tax regulations possibly clearing next week we could see more gains this month if Corporate taxes get dropped to 21% which will be good for Corporations and America is all about Corporations.

Well fellas, here we go. Everyone have their plan in place?

I pulled $200,000 out of the market last Monday. It's sitting in cash right now. LOL. Talk about timing. Before you go thinking I'm the next Warren Buffet, I'll just say it was 100% luck. Closed out an old 401k that was sitting in an annuity and decided to finally move it under the stewardship of my current portfolio management company. It's literally sitting on a printed check at their offices today as the market crashes and burns. Time to get that money back into the market!

Matty, do you think the introduction of automated computer-assisted, high speed trading has compounded that problem? I wonder if 20, 30, years ago people actually had a better idea of where the market was going. Seems like now a days, we have these computers making billions of trades a day at lightning speed, running algorithms that no one really understands. You've seen the changes over 20 years. Whats your take?

Took a big hit today although I'd already pulled out of the bitcoin and marijuana stocks three weeks ago. I'm still on the fence about the rest but as a long term investor, I'll be riding the wave and will keep an eye out tomorrow for any bargains.

Cheers...

I hope a bit of a chin check for the economy happens in 3-4 years. It's too early right now. I want some of the 2016+ MY cars to be a little older when the economy is punched. Should make for some nice used car prices!

The stock market is almost not based on actual investing anymore and more on rumor and emotion. All it takes is a couple people saying the bull has run too long and others start to sell off. That and the computers following stupid patterns whic obviously are stupid because they seem to cascade.

I will surprised if they don't liquidate. Nomura is liquidating their inverse VIX product so others should/will follow suit.

Short VIX was not the smartest long term trade - eventually everything reverts to the mean.

Not quite yet, IMO.

I have no formal financial education or training and nothing to base my next statement on other than gut feeling, but I've been saying for a few months now that it "feels" like the Dow needs to stabilize back down to about 22k and S&P down to about 2400. Things got too hot too fast.

Easy come, easy go. Wifey and I have been more than a bit shocked at how much our retirement accounts made in January. It was ridiculous and you knew if couldn't last. Sure enough, I'm now down for a loss so far in 2018 where I was up insanely just a week ago. But I've been waiting and dreading this, so it's no big surprise. I just hope it bottoms out soon before it starts eating into the gains from last year.
