Dude I only have a few broken ribs! I'm not a man so that's like nothing (we are not discussing my endless bravery when it comes to colds!).

I might go about the day a bit slower and I have a water bottle excercises to do to empty out my lungs but I ain't nowhere near that bad (cuz I don't have a fever).

Dear diary.

I'm no expert but I think this day wasn't a winner.

I woke up (last successfully finished task of the day) and I thought I was so cool my shit don' stink. That ended abt 10 minutes after I dropped the kids off to school.

I have a rule. When I leave the site, the first five hours worth of equipment, materials and what ever is laid ready for the morning. I've learned that it's better to go shopping at the end of the day than in the morning since then you'll remember everything still, and especially when one is renovating something seriously old, it helps. Yesterday I left the site a bit fast so since I knew I had all the needed there I knew that before lunch I would have a new window in for the kids library room, new light bulbs for the up upstairs bedroom, required tools to get the radiators out, enough wires to redo the electrics, gallons of white paint to handle the walls before first coat...

So what happened was that I got to the site, I realized I didn't have a window. Since it's a small box room that'll be a library/ guest room, I went to fetch the closest replacement I could find for the current one.

I was already on my way when I realized I never measured the old one. My shit still don't stink so I couldn't call the hubby who was on site, I called the fil since him showing up there at eight am wouldn't give the hubby a laugh. Anyway, I got the window, hauled it up, and left again to buy screws since I had known for a fact I had those..

Then next I realized I need to add insulation to the outer wall. Shopping again. Then I realized I need to redo electrics. More shopping. Then I realized I need to redo the floor, the walls, and I was starting to get mildly fucking pissed with myself.

Anyway, out of the 12 hour work do, I spent shopping for shit I absolutely knew I already had for about 6, I'm now a day late from my mildly tight schedule and this was the day one of the HC build phase.

I do have all materials for tomorrow. I triple checked before leaving for the night. Now that I'm not tearing down shit constantly, or digging up shit it appears I'm going to reclaim my role as the site clown. Tomorrow will be a 16 hour day so that I can over the weekend catch up with all the shit I didn't get done today.

To end on a good note, my electrician is 67 year old man with a lazy eye and he's missing a few fingers. He's been retired for five years now, but someone called him for me so he called me to let me know he will show up next week to do the electric shit.

" They called me that the insane lady is at it again and that you had asked if the hardware store could recommend a new electrician since I retired. Hell no, your sites are mine, my wife makes me come since I'm on a good mood for weeks after working for you!"

I love him to bits. I probably was the one who bit his fingers off at some point but it takes a real man to show up at my sites for ten years and to fix all I've fucked up while trying to help.

Oh. Ancient radiators are heavy. Remember to be a man about hauling those out and don't ask for help. Dropping them out from a window is Soo fucking smart if you have the upper body strength of a fly.

All this for 900 ft.²?
Sounds like you need to watch reruns of Gilligans island. The professor really knew how to build stuff!

Oh fuck you! I'm doing the uppity up floor, even if you Americans are completely deprived of reasonable measuring units, the space I've dealt today is a fucking broom closet. It's 9m2. And I was just informed it will not be a library, cuz my weirdo kid prefers a small room.

So... And I'm being nice about this... I could expand the fucking room to double with very little work. Some of it would not be 6tf tall space but at the lowest point it would still be 3.5ft. "I want it as it is. You're my mom, make it so!"

So the biggest kid gets a room three times that. I need to make the kid out it in in writing or I'll be billed for life for therapy.

First bedroom done (a kid's)

And a view from outside around midnight, two hours before I closed for the night (went back in around five am).

Anyway. Second bedroom in the works now and I should have it done by the end of this week.

There must have been some huge miscommunication.

There is no way this is a 1100sq ft / 350 sq meter home.
I lived in a 1500 sq ft home as a child, my bedroom was that size, and it was a 3 bedroom, with the other bedroom being much smaller. With no basement.
I would guess this to be a 600 sq meter home, at the least.

An m² is roughly a yard by yard. That room is about 24m² which means it's about 240 of your stupid feet² units.

Or I'm bad at taking photos. Could be both.

My kid bought that bedroom set with hard manual labor (it's actually worth a ton of money too. It has never been used and unlike most replicas that's really high quality) and i had a mildly hard time turning it to a room that an 11 year old could live in. Not exactly a normal combination you can get ideas from an interior design weekly paper.

That was the easy room to start with tho. Now I'm building a room for a bookcase some doctor who would envy.

Wade you're right, and wrong. I need to go back and put the rod in the slot it is meant to be, and also level it to fit both sides!

Thanks, I hadn't spotted that. The fucking thing is leveled. I had to restore the windows and just put them back up after it.

I fucking know who that doctor is, the who dude I've skipped over.

Hey I'm trying to figure out what a six year old boy would think cool for a few years on their floor for a few years. It's now covered in some kind of large thingies that have been put on to level the floor. I could build a new one on it, but if I painted a really cool race track on instead I could even drill holes for obstacles if needed (since I can cover it up in a few hours and time) or should I put glow in the dark paints in and do a star map on the floor? If I do the floor for him now, it'll be destroyed in a few years and he would miss out on an epic play room .

Ideas?

I'm not following the math here either. So, Lupsie here is saying this room is about 24 sq m. Theoretically then, if the home is total 350 sq m, this room accounts for 6.8% of the house.

But if 24 sq m equals 240 sq feet, then 240 sq ft divided by 1100 sq ft indicates the bedroom accounts for 21.8% of the house.

Something isn't right.

Fine, I googled it. Lupsie's conversion for the room is right, but whoever converted 350 sq meters to 1100 sq feet was dead wrong. Like, really wrong.

350 sq meters converts to 3,767 sq ft.

Oh, I just realized you're mathing wrong! A feet is one third of a meter. So it'll take about 9 ft² to fill one m².

I'm tired. Your math sucks.

So who the fuck did that?

I know I'm tired these days all the time but I use my handy 9x convertor for ft² . That way I won't over shoot it and that's like the only one from the math lessons I remember from the heart.

And to requote... Go read your emails and stop confusing me with math on the night I actually got out alive.

Anyway, the house has a basement. A (?) Ground floor? And the old side where that bed room is, has a third layer which we need a name for too. That bedroom in from the highest floor, and if I would expand it, the room would be double in size easily.

An American kid, the best friend of the occupant of the red and white bedroom (a tribute to our very confusing heritage also) is an American who will be living in our home for a month next summer. I think we can make her measure shit to a form we can agree on then.

Without the basement which is also living space quality room, the house is only abt 250. That's still abt a 100 more than houses here built usually.

Oh, in my email I skipped the important part of the budget! I'm currently 4k less spent than expected but I haven't totalled today in and I haven't counted in the two shovels I burned during the site we are not talking about (that's like 30 bucks) and I've gotten off easy with my weekly spreadsheets since I haven't tackled bathrooms at all. Hubby has spent abt a k at this point while redoing the sewer line and all in all I'm guestimating that at this point I'm winning my four beers!

The bad news is that the electrician is coming in tomorrow and he always is mean to my budget. Also, next week is bathroom week and it means that since I haven't bought shit, I'm either buying stock or I'll be raped in transportation.

I'll just say this...

I fucking hate digging. Doing trenches or what ever those are called by hand is a bad, bad idea. I can demolish and I can rebuild and I'll be good at it but fuck! This will be my last home. I'm kinda glad to have failures in the history too. I don't want my kids to think of me as a perfect human. I want them to remember that it's worth to want something and to work for it.

The ditch project is still off limits! We ain't talking about it.
