I think BMW is just setting up for an awesome G90 CS: "BMW M is proud to present the first ever CS version of a bloated hybrid! Over 1000lbs lighter than the G90 M5! This was done by scouring the car for excess mass and useless features!" (Fine print: by removing the battery and motor). They can bump up the S68 to get the same power numbers since they understate anyway and I assume the S68 can do better than the S63 (even though if you look at the specs they dumb it down because of the electric motor).

Lucky? lol no. They are lucky. Otherwise I wouldn’t be buying it. They will lose a ton of people if and when they decide to go ev only. God luck to them. It’s a death blow to the company. Consumers don’t want all ev’s and they aren’t buying them any where close to what was hoped for. Governments mandates tax breaks rebates and lower prices still aren’t driving the majority of the masses to buy in droves. You think enthusiasts like us and other forums are going to spend 100/200 k or more on vacuum cleaner like appliances? Heh of I had no choice and I needed to get a car for day to day use to get around sure. But these types of purchase are totally wants not needs. And I don’t bed to buy 150k car. No one a battery powered piece of shit that I don’t want or need. My sentiments on this are shared by many many people.

Clearly you have trouble comprehending. It ain’t about buying it. It’s about the fact that it’s still even produced with a V8.

It isn't lucky we are getting a V8, they know that if they don't sell it with a V8, they are not selling at all. I agree we are still lucky to see an ICE M5, but given the way things are right now, I believe a non ICE M5, is pretty far |

Mercedes has already pulled back a lot of the EV timetable plans, saying they were far too aggressive for the market realities. They are putting a V8 back into the C63 because of dismal sales with the 4 cylinder.
Audi is in for a serious wake-up call next year when they are taking the entire A4/S4 lineup electric. The USA sales for those cars are going to crater hard. They are keeping ICE on their odd-number cars, A5, A7, etc... and they will continue to sell those to soften the landing from the EV cliff their jumping off. BMW, to their credit, seems to have understood that the M5 will not sell without a V8. At least, not yet. Maybe at some point in the future that's a change the market could swallow, but they know their customer base well enough to have not taken that big of a leap yet. My main issue with BMW lately is ugly styling. I have always thought BMW cars looked great AND performed great. But now I honestly don't think they have a single car in the lineup that looks good. F90 M5 was the last remaining one. This giant grill, squinty headlight trend is atrocious. Adding glowing grills is just the extra kick in the gut while you're down. |

Folks are taking this too personally and missing the big picture here.
Everyone is moving to these hybrid powertains not because they want to because upcoming emissions regulations require it and this is a global market with bottom lines and shareholders. I'm not one for the weight gain either but everyone is seeking performance, emissions, safety and mpgs are doing it. Everyone is trying to do it right and some off the bat will get it right and others not so much. All the cars coming out today where pinned, drafted years ago when XYB standards where in place and the market was shifting at the demands of governments. As the landscape changes so will the powertains. If tomorrow they had e fuels which are considered zero emissions where at everyone pump station and a dollar a gallon..everything would have 8 liter NA V8s that got 10mpg. Why FCA shortly will have gotten rid of all V8s. Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, Bugatti, MB, Audi, and many more all on the same train with downsizing and electric power aides. Blame Euro 6 and 7 emissions https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro...sion_standards And California clean vechile standards and those states that follow it SFT33 Savoy2001 CarlosM4 subterFUSE Our only saving grace is governments are starting to see the climate goal isn't double from the technology and cost sides yet, and they are back tracking and adding in clauses. Manufacturing is seeing certain combos don't work and certain niches seek x for the money. I think AMG will bring back the V8, but it will be a hybrid powertain and likely be only sold only where allowable. |

Every single thread on new M5 turns to weight, environmental regs, etc. I’m just excited to finally see the thing and figure out if I want to stay on allocation waitlist!

I understand that clear as day. It's not that hard to follow your logic. However it means very little to me because if they weren't producing it with a V8 I wouldn't be considering it so it's not a "lucky" anything. Once again they are lucky to have me not the other way around. My money is good anywhere not just with BMW. Maybe this concept is to hard for YOU to comprehend.
