Yeah Europe folk are afraid of buying an SUV and a sports car. Only allowed one car by the EU I guess! M5 wagon…what a sleeper. Haha just playing everyone don’t get mad but seriously I struggle.. I don’t know if I like the wagon or not. 9/10 friends I ask say the touring is a “station wagon” in a bad car slur. Maybe the practicality… is just that…addictive.

The RS6 is a far better looking wagon.
Not even close IMO.

That shutline where the standard rear door meets the M rear guard is not a good look. Same issue on the G80 also.
I realise BMW are just trying to maximise profit by not producing M specific rear doors but its a really poor decision imo. |

Yes, the rear one. Not sure about the tiny fronts though.

In more seriousness, practicality and performance in one car. Some folks are tuning RS6 up to 1000hp, just for fun. And for me, most of the time touring/avant or whatever you call it - looks better than sedan. |

Can’t “weight” to see what this thing hits the scales at. I am thoroughly amazed they didn’t learn any lessons from the XM’s utter failure to sell. The X5M is just as fast, better looking, lighter, more capacious for luggage and costs a ton less. There’s no improvement to claimed performance vs. the current M5 and fuel economy is still going to be abysmal.
If they insist on going PHEV, I would honestly rather see a higher power version of the B58 with about 450WHP (easy to achieve) + dual lightweight axial flow electric motors that each output 100-150HP. The B58 is a more enjoyable engine to me than the S58 because it doesn’t have the huge deficit of power below 3000rpm, and I like the way it sounds a lot better, too. So with a 450HP 3.0T I6 + 2 electric motors, we’re at 650-750HP. I wouldn’t be surprised switching from S68 to B58 shaved a couple hundred lbs out of the nose, too. Less weight means they could cut the size of the battery pack slightly which would further improve efficiency and reduce the weight even more. I like the reliability of the B58 much better than the hot-Vee S68 and it’s super impressive just how efficient the engine is on its own. This is how I would’ve probably gone after the same result. The uprated B58 would also make a nice next gen M340i engine. |

Why does BMW have to force us to my M when wagons are meant to be practical
I think it's purely a ploy on the RS 6 market (Nice car). Wagons are meant to be practical and if they brought over a proper ride height 3 or 5 without all the glitz and lowering I would buy one. The Allroad was a good example however Audi still forced you to by the AR versus a normal Avant. I just saw the M5 sedan in Canada at a dealer and it looked pretty nice.Price tag on this car is prohibitive even in the non M version. Also the weight and size are somewhat prohibitive in my book. Don't force us to buy M versions and give us the option for a practical daily driver.
