I did it for the first time a few weeks ago, I'm just happy that I didn't finish last, I was right in the middle of the field. I've been popping my collar ever since...

I'm tempted to try crossfire just to see what the hype is about. Unfortunately, I see all the kipping/cheating/half-assed form for the sake of pumping out reps and I can only shake my head. I see 1 or 2 people trying to do things properly and the rest of the people fawning all over the "studs" that crank out reps and trying to emulate them any way they can. Worst of all, the instructors encourage it. It's not surprising so many people get hurt doing this stuff.

I've checked out a couple places locally and haven't found one that strikes me as legitimate. I'll keep looking.

Good to see some crossfitters on this board. I've been doing it for about 8 months now. Definitely make sure you get a good trainer/coach that puts your health first. I've had a coach that basically just came out of a weekend course and started a box whereas my new coach was actually a certified sports trainer before doing crossfit.
I'm really in it to have fun and get fit...I already know I can't compete with half the kids that do this stuff so easily. If you like competition this is def for you.

I just did my first intro class last night at CrossFit to focus on proper form so I don't get hurt. When I walked in, he asked me what I wanted to work on and I told him just that (wanting to know the movements before jumping into a class) and he said even in a class setting, he would work with me to ensure that I have proper form and don't get hurt. That's a nice plus, I guess.

We worked mostly on barbell movements as those are the most technical and can cause the most injury if done improperly. The problem is that I had to keep stopping as I felt incredibly lightheaded after each set. I haven't worked out in several years and I had not eaten a meal in 8.5hrs when I was doing this so certainly that's a factor but has anyone else experienced this? My breathing probably isn't perfect either but the trainer was more concerned with the lack of calories. I'm hoping it goes away as I increase my excercise regimen. Anyone have any tips or advice on this? I really don't feel like being on a youtube video...

Yeah I think it'll get better over time. I'm going tomorrow but I'm going to take it really easy. I had to take three breaks during that session to keep from passing out. The trainer said it's not uncommon as many newbies either sit to rest or walk outside to barf. I opted to eat little before going in to avoid the barf option but was kicking myself halfway through the workout. It was definitely the up and down of dead lifting as the jump rope and burpees didn't bother me.

Sidenote: The class is at 5am so eating a meal beforehand isn't an option either.

eat light before the wods like a banana and a cup of coffee. then eat big after (healthy of course) that seemed to work for me

the biggest thing for me is trying to compete with myself and not trying to beat everyone else in the box which results usually in injury, trust me I learned the hard way a few times.

xfit is a great concept if you are practicing good form, once your form goes bad look out it can be disaster when you think of all the reps and the speed you are doing them at.

good luck and have fun!

Ok so I've been going every weekday for the last 8 days and I love it. I'm not pushing myself in terms of weight (working on perfecting my form) but the workouts are awesome. I found a great box and am very happy I decided to go this route. I can't think of a better way to start the day!

Welp, I'm now something like six weeks in and feeling great. I've also lost 16lbs! My goal was to go M-F and take weekends off but between holidays and working out of state random days each week, I've typically been hitting it about 4 days/wk.

The bottom line is that I love it. My energy level is higher and I physically haven't looked this in shape in probably 10 years.

Not opposed to crossfit, amazed at strength of the elite guys. I'm too old, big compound moves end up in injury for me.
