I have a feeling that is something AI created:
- Nothing to be found on the net with image search except this exact image
- The height of the arm (and cartridge) seems way too low to be able to rest horizontally on the record.

The problem is the price of LPs these days!

If you are just playing records that you bought years ago, no problem.

I pretty much stopped buying LP's a few years ago. Both new and used prices are just silly.
Considering that pressing a record, including a nice gatefold sleeve, cutting, stampers etc costs about $3-$4

At some point, the hype will be over and the market will be flushed with affordable used records

I went to my local record store over the weekend and purchased 9 albums. Some new, some used. I spent $180. Certainly more than they were the last time I was shopping for vinyl! Where is Columbia House when you need them?

Now playing. Funny story about this one. “Signs of life”, song 1 side A is an instrumental. I didn’t realize until the singing started on song 2 that something was wrong. I stopped the record, took a look, and it should be playing at 45 rpm, not 33. I don’t ever recall having a 12” album that was not 33. First for everything!

Found a cool little store this morning. Owner run. He added up my take and said $115, but let’s just call it an even $100. Sweet! I will be back soon!

Good choices, Hubba. My favorites there are Running On Empty and Aqualung.

Yep, had them both on original LPs, though I’m not sure where they are now.

I only made it through a few bins. That place might be dangerous for me…

I remember buying a 12 “ 45 in the 80s. Was with 3 days of my weekly paper run wage or $8 .

Possibly the best choice I’ve made 😀

I knew I had one in the collection: A pure vinyl direct to disc 45RPM LP from 1976.

I was curious about this having bought most of my original collection in the late 80s. Using https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ I found:

1986 - $9 = $31.77 in 2024. I buy stuff online mostly from Zia and Turntable Lab, including limited edition colored releases ranging $25 - $35. It seems vinyl isn’t any more expensive than it used to be, just seems that way to those old enough to remember those prices, or still have those price tags on our shrink wrap.

Compared to concert tickets, new vinyl appears to be quite the bargain!

I remember a regional DJ recording a parody of "Hotel California" back when The Eagles were the first concert to break the 3-digit ticket price barrier.

But I can understand high ticket prices. The way artists now can make money is virtually only through concerts. Online streaming has made it much more difficult to make a good living as an artist through album sales alone.
And concerts is of course is their profession, playing music

Music sales (albums, online) is also something that mostly labels profit from.

If you look at it that way it's true, but physical goods in general (whether being TV's or kitchen appliences or clothing etc etc, and I count a vinyl record or a CD in that class too) are nowadays much cheaper (inflation corrected), and it's mainly stuff like housing and services (like eating in restaurants etc) have become more expensive.

BTW if I put $9 in 1986 in your calculator, I get $25.83 in 2024. Lots of albums are now considerably more expensive.
