That, I could see. I personally would still prefer the X5M, but can totally see someone opting for touring with the added HP and lower stance.

A great case in example is the XM and XM Label could not agree more 👍🏼!!

The problem with the XM was cost (…and the field it was playing in). That was extremely problematic because BMW was a bit out of their league targeting the high end SUV buyers.

I get that but I think it was more timing and economic circumstances and less it’s cost …. unfortunately for the XM it was launched at one of the worst economic seasons ever as interest rates exploded … I was at the dealership today who said post Covid interest hikes and unemployment has left them with much less buyers .. hence why I agree it’s not about sales numbers that matter to o someone like me …it about being an enthusiast and love for what it is… I’m absolutely in love with the truck and those that can afford it all love it as well… find me an XM owner especially label who hates it … the performance stats for LABEL given the price makes it an obvious play for bmw .. I’m beating GT3RS and lambo trucks and get just as much attention as there are not so many XM Labels out there … hence I’m not concerned about sales numbers… I love the XM as an enthusiast… regardless of sales if that makes sense … it’s such an unbelievable ride I wish u guys could all drive a XM label and feel it!! It’s so next level bad ass!! I never thought I could love an SUV just as much as an M3 or M4…

The have radically changed the car all around and generally speaking not for the better is the consensus. Go read Reddit also you’ll see. Since when does a car like this come out with less performance than its predecessor ever? In every metric? Answer is never. Plus understand something. These cars aren’t camrys. This is a total extra. An extravagance if you will. And as for me I’d I don’t love it and it doesn’t tickle my fancy I won’t spend that kind of money on it. Period the end. I suspect alot of people feel as I do. I’m sure it will still sell ok. But the real M fans won’t be diving head first into this imo. This won’t be as bad as the xm but I don’t think it will sell like f90 did imo.
Where exactly is it written that it’s slower?
BMW always understates numbers so nobody needs to worry about the car’s 0-60 time which is likely to better 3.0.
In the launch video, they stated the 0-200km/h (124mph) was 10.9secs which is faster than their stated performance for the F90.
The car looks great IMO, I love the look, tech and spec.
I am their target market: I’ll never launch it, never track it nor tear the tires off it with agressive ‘traffic light’ take offs.
I will drive it on in the mid range, only tickling its capabilities.
I like the fact that it won’t be ludicrously expensive to daily it (unlike my F10 M5) as the ICE won’t need to run for daily commutes.
The added size of the car is great for family use too.
If you want a pocket rocket for track use, buy the M2.

The G90 M5 is the car for me so I’ve ordered one.

My order’s in.

Went with Brooklyn Grey after much deliberation as:

1. I feel the brighter colours show the lines better

2. I love the frozen grey but I wouldn’t know where to start in terms of maintaining it and I can’t be dealing with the stress of forensically minding it. (And it’s €4,500 extra!)

3. Unlike Fire Red or Isle of Man green, Brooklyn is not going to offend anyone and is likely to be a better seller when the time comes to move on.

Interior is Silverstone. Love the Kyalami but a risky colour for resale!

What are you going for colour wise?

But not for the reason most people think.

One would assume the G90 will sell because people like it, but I don't think that this will be the case so much. It think the G90 will sell well because of "lack of options." Kind of like the beautiful country girl who rates a 10 who grew up in a small country town, didn't want to leave, and ended marrying an Average Joe, why? Because of lack of options.

Let's analyze the XM for a minute. We all know that the sales of the XM have been a abysmal, but you have to look at the market in which it competes. In that same segment you have the, the Lamborghini Urus, the Audi Q8RS, the Porsche Cayenne GT or even really a Cayenne Coupe S is still close on price the XM, the Mercedes G-Wagen, the Range Rover Defender, the Aston Martin DBX, and more. That market segment is cluttered with extremely tough competition, and all of the alternatives to the XM are really really good! It's not that the BMW XM is a terrible choice, but it doesn't really offer much of an incentive over the competition unless you just really really like BMW and want the badge.

Now lets look at the direct competition for the G90 M5 in 2025 and going forward from that year. We will have in 2025 the:

- Mercedes E63S: This car will also be a PHEV and with a 6cyl engine instead of a V8 like the M5. We don't have many details yet.

- Mercedes AMG GT63S and E-Performance: These cars still have the V8. The GT63S already does a claimed 0-60 in 2.6s, meanwhile the E Performance will come with 831hp and 1082lb/ft of [...]
Cracking summary.

I have a 2023 Mercedes V300 alongside a 2022 545e and the Merc’s infotainment system is garbage by comparison. So, BMW wins there all day long IMO.

Also, you did touch on the EU regs but to put that in perspective… taxes are bananas in some EU countries where cars are concerned. This, a market that buys 2.5 times more BMWs than the US. The PHEV G90 is now an option for many who would have been, like me, priced out by the additional $120,000 in taxes alone a car like this can attract in some markets.

The G90 fixes that. And thank God for it.

Yep! During COVID, cars were selling by way of that relief money. I do agree that economics hindered the XM as well, but it is a performer for sure.

What new group? The ones worried about the environment? I highly doubt it. The car is also sold with the same high pricetag as earlier M5s, so the lunch lady at junior high can't afford it. If this was a car that costs less than 50k brand new, then I would agree with you

Yeah, it’s not a 3 Series. It’s an expensive car similar situation with the 8 Series.

I don’t like the “new group” comments either. It’s just more rhetoric predicated by baseless presumptions. There will be new buyers, sure, but the majority will be prior ///M car owners. They aren’t a new group at all. A large segment of G8X buyers owned prior ///M3’s.

Most companies have processes in place to save money by streamlining production. That isn’t anything new and it has always been that way.
Actually there was just Q A with Domahoj Dukec on his Instagram. He says it's true, that they could make a new door and make the transition much smoother.

On G80 they carried over doors. They are looking at each product how much they want to invest and how much impact it has on the customer and the product. So in a way, he answers one of the reasons was the investment part in the new car.

And of course, it turned out, that when doing this sharp kink with G80, customers liked that. So that was no brainer to do this also on M5.

So, there are always "reasons".

You can charge it off 120V…. The pack will recharge to full overnight pretty easily. You also dont have to charge as the ICE will recharge/keep a minimal SoC for system performance.

Why did bmw decide to get rid of fender vents and badges? Those were iconic and an easy way to identify it from non-M cars. Looks naked without it imho
