Soft close doors will eventually make it into the car. I still feel like they didn’t equip them on launch due to March’s update BMW sometimes gives all their cars.

Then why didn’t they include them in the 2026 pricing guide? They aren’t coming IMO.

Ok, I think what I'm reading is:
Hopefully that clears things up for the folks like me who haven't driven it. |

Chris Harris -
“That immediate step you get with electricity puts this in a different bracket to the previous M5.” “It’s still a M car… it truly is” “As it is I far rather have it than a RS6” “I’d be very close to putting my money where my mouth is here. I like this car a lot” Did people not watch the end ? He called it a M7 because he thinks the M3 is now M5 size so is that throwing shade at the G80 too? No. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. It’s pretty simple. Alan

Chris mentioned the one simple aspect of the new M5 that can't be overlooked. No matter how much high tech software & hardware is injected into this new chassis, it's no longer "dynamic enough" to be called an M5. Therefore, the G90 M5 as clever & trick as the new drivetrain is, can no longer me considered a progression of the M5 lineup. It's a nice car & very classy sedan / saloon. But it's just too heavy & big to wear the badge we've all grown to know & love over the years. BMW did a tremendous job with the build. Maybe a CS version someday will be a touch sharper & slightly more agile. From a driver's car perspective, the raw performance M5's ended with the F90.

For a car in this class that was such a stupid move by BMW beancounters to save such little money.

IMO main reason why new M5 became what we see is EU regulations that I think majority of US customers doesn’t know. One will not be able to drive into city center unless vehicle is either fully electric or plug in hybrid. Imagine living in LA or New York and not being able to drive into it’s downtown with your shiny new $140k toy. I’ve said it before and will say it again. This thing is compromise on so many levels because of regulations. BMW had to do many things that it otherwise wouldn’t if not for regulations. There’s expensive hybrid system and battery so savings had to be made elsewhere. As simple as it is it’s also annoying AF.

haven’t seen but a handful of m5s in the track and they are usually someone just driving it for the novelty.

I think their profit margin is very tight on this thing and they didn't want the loaded price to creep too high for elasticity of demand reasons. As a consumer I think they should've let it creep up a bit more and added in some of the creature comforts people have come to expect from a M5, maybe make a "luxury package" or something

No idea what’s the concept on this. It’s mixed bag this one. Much more power but hardly quicker. More comfortable and bigger but missing options from previous gen. More M7 than M5 but cheaper material choices in places. Some couldn’t wait to het behind the wheel while others skipping it for same exact reasons. This one is controversial. Many hated F90 for being AWD. I couldn’t understand it since it can be fully disengaged and lighter than its previous gen. I guess we did not appreciate it so we got this G90 thing.

Most of the people don't read past the headline of this car is heavy and spend the rest of their free time spamming every single M5 thread regurgitating the same point over and over again. They had to add the electrification or lose the V8TT. People still would have been outraged if BMW gave us a 4500lb saloon phev with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. As for cost cutting its not just limited to the M5. Its apparent on all new models going forward and its not limited to just BMW. It sucks as my X5MC with full leather does feel more premium than the G90 I sat in but considering they added the hybrid system and did NOT raise the cost of the car its probably the better way to go than to price the car 20K higher msrp than the outgoing model by keeping all of the bells and whistles. Hopefully they do release a full leather package down the road to give people the option to get it. Alan

the emission / regulation thing to me has to be a farce...
the M5 in the grand scheme of the BMW line is ABSOLUTELY tiny... hell the regular 5 series is already small out of the entire fleet but the M5... fraction of a percent of sales... in the USA, the electrification didn't do anything for it as still has to pay the gas guzzler tax because it averages below 22.5 MPG... and we aren't even a strict nation when it comes to emissions... my deep down thought is that this is a test bed for future tech... or it's something they already had w the XM and could easily reuse and potentially use in another future variant... the question that I ask is... what prevented them from making a car with another 100HP and keeping the standard weight or a standard hybrid that didn't see this penalty? Likely nothing... again, I don't see where the emission regulation nonsense is coming from when you can't count these cars on your fingers... are there that many m5 drivers that drive thru the middle of London? because there are far better cars for that... including ones with only 150 hp
