I was honestly never a fan of Invicta. About a month ago I was watch shopping. I love the look of Panerai watches but being a student, I could never afford one at this time. So I looked for a long time and then ran across this Invicta. It looks similar to a Pam but not exactly. It has a similar shape to the Luminor GMT. Plus it has a face that is larger than the Luminor GMT. The Pam is 44 mm, the Invicta is 48 mm. After all of that, I loved the watch. I was looking to spend $500 max on a watch. I bought the Invicta brand new for $60 shipped.

So I saved myself over $400 and bought a watch that looks similar to one of my favorites that I will eventually own one day. I'll put my flame suit on, but I think I did well.

I sent my 1960s Oyster Perpetual (that was a gift from my grandfather) to Rolex for service they quoted nearly $3000 I declined for obvious reasons. I guess the watchmaker took offense to it because he really screwed up the watch before putting the case back on. The perpetual winding weight is not even rotating around the arbor now. It's making some terrible noises, and does not keep accurate time anymore. I notified Ben Bridges jeweler (the dealer who sent it to Rolex) of this about an hour after taking possession. The manager was not in. I'm furious and waiting to talk to the manager tomorrow. If they don't fix it I think I will take them to court. I've never sued anyone, but I'm so mad that I would spend 10K in lawer fees for a watch thats not even worth 7K.

That terrible! Are you sure they sent it to a RSC? Do you know which one they sent it to? I never heard of such a disregarding attitute from an authorized Rolex service center. Hope it works out for you.
What did Rolex said the watch needed for $3000?
Full service is in the ballpark of $700 or so.

Comparable would be vacheron constantine, iwc or cartier. All of which I would choose over a rolex

VC and Patek produce a much broader product line than Rolex. Rolex is more comparable to other tool watch brands like Breitling and Panerai. But comparing watch brands is sort of like comparing car brands. Buy what you like, who cares what others like?

I love my Rolex. It is like owning a mercedes. It is beautiful, efficient and classy. Many other watches may be worth more or more sought after. However, at the end of the day, I am still wearing an expensive watch that performs the way it should and looks fantastic.

Let me stop. Rolex is a great watch. But for the money, I believe that there are better options out there. Just my 2 cents.

Anyway to the op, do yourself a favor and buy a tissot.

Factory Movement Service $555
Case Frame $1,500
Dial $315
Case Back $120
Pair Hands $54
Second Hand $27
TOTAL $2571 not including tax or shipping

To replace the bracelet $975.

I declined because I though it was excessive to replace the case frame. Rolex brags about how they formulate their own alloy and have their own foundries to manufacture the best most corrosion resistant case. I find it hard to believe that the case is in such bad shape that it must be tossed. As far as I have owned it the watch has never even had condensation in the case. Its always kept good time. So how is it possible that there is so much damage to the case yet the watch still runs. Besides I like the way the older cases look and I want to keep the original serial numbers.

Sounds like the watch was pretty banged up but in running order when handed over to them. Im actually surprised though. RSC NYC is said to have a good reputation(from what I've heard). Some minor complaints but nothing like this.
Not a lawyer but you might have a case. I would take detailed pics/vid of watch and have a qualified independant detail what they did to the movement. Get all your paperwork in order a file a small claims.
I dont know when Rolex went to 904 SS but that doesnt matter either way. Cant imagine the case affecting water tight integrity unless it was run over by a tank!
I would have all the seals swapped and then a full pressure test done to proof. Keep us updated. Good luck.

I guess from the GMTIIc 116710 on. The former ones were made of 316L steel. So the new GMT, DS and SubC plus new Ex(II) etc are made of 904 steel.

And being experienced enough(from Tag Heuer, Omega, Girard Perregaux, Breitling, Panerai, several IWC, Zenith,AP, JLC), I can tell you in terms of durability there is no movement like a Rolex movement....

People who are generally not into watches tend to bash Rolex a lot. Ignorance is bliss....

Heres a quick link to Rolex and 904. AFAIK all SS Rolexes are now utilizing 904. Last I heard it was 4X the price of 316 stock stainless steel and uses much more expensive machinery to form into cases due to the hardness.
Regardless, 316 is, I should think more than hard enough not to be damaged to cause such issues.

I agree, there is no movement more durable than Rolex movements. Rolex by far, has many more movements COSC tested than any other brand. Most of the Swiss brands mentioned by others here dont even subject their products to rigorous COSC testing. Rolex has, and still does earn its stripes.

Debatable? In order to be debatable all parties need to be talking about the same thing. You obviously have a problem doing that. We have been talking about durabilty in case you havent noticed. A Patek isnt close to Rolex in that regard. If you want to debate please present your evidence. A little giggly face doesnt make an adult arguement Im afraid.

Just curious, what brand watch do you normally wear?
