Personally, I think a good pair of shoes, spendy or otherwise, will do one more good than a good watch or a good car. My feet need to last longer than either one.

Given the existence of the watch forum, I'm surprised nobody asks about shoes....

i like those as well but dont have that spendy of ones. i tend to stick with johnston and murphy for the most part for work-dress wear shoes.

J&M are nice shoes, and by most folks' standards, I'd say they are pricey. I may be out of touch to some degree, but I think $375 for a pair of shoes is pricey to most people, at least for shoes they'll only wear with a suit at work.

I admit, here and now, some folks might think I am the male equivalent of Imelda Marcos. I have a thing for shoes. Currently have over 300 pair, although that does still include shoes like my penny loafers from my middle and high school days. I just re-sole them and keep on wearing them from time to time. And with that many pairs, my shoes never wear out for I don't wear any one pair of them enough for that to happen. LOL

Wow I thought I had a lot of shoes. I get rid of ones I don't wear all the time though. I also wear dress shoes every day to work. Not just with a suit. Dress pants, dress shirt, no tie sometimes a jacket.

As someone who's not part of the upper echelons of the socioeconomic ladder, yes, $375 for shoes sounds very pricey to me. All of my fancier shoes are from Zara.

Not having as many shoes as I doesn't mean you don't have a lot of shoes. You probably do if you think you do.

I wear every one of them at least one time a year. (I didn't include things like flip flops and house shoes.)

I don't think I'd ever try to make a case for why one should spend that much on a pair of shoes, except for riding boots and formal slippers/oxfords, which can be hard to come by even for but $375.

Honestly don't think I've ever spent 375 on a pair of shoes. Too much in tires(those shoes) I guess.

If I'm to be found dancing in public, a formal event is where I'll do it. I'm not a half bad dancer, if I do say so myself. I'm not competition level, but I can hold my own on at a ball or cotillion. So, I'd say so long as they are comfortable (and don't stick to the floor), they are the right thing to wear.

that's awesome. i'm a pretty avid dancer myself, but its hard to avoid sticky floors when people start spilling drinks.

I'm not married yet but did you really not dance at your wedding? I thought groom and bride having the first dance was considered to be a tradition of sorts.

I got married in hawaii on the beach so no reception with dancing. Its truely the way to go from money standpoint. Planning took 5 minutes and cost was almost all the honeymoon, 3 weeks in maui.

At a nightclub/bar having a dance floor? I'm assuming this is what you mean. I don't dance in bars/clubs for that reason. I'm too old to look good falling.

I can't say I've seen folks carry drinks onto the dance floor otherwise. How in God's name can one lead or follow with a drink a drink in hand, to say nothing of executing a move without showering oneself or others?

Not even at the party/reception following the wedding ceremony? Well, you're married now, so I guess some of the best benefits of dancing don't matter too much.

I can't believe you said that. Did your father not teach you the subtle art of romancing a lady? No wonder so many women choose to work instead of stay home to raise children and take care of their husbands. (I mean that in the context of cases where the husband's income is sufficient to meet the family's needs and objectives.)

I don't, but I'll wager that one hour's ballroom dancing every day is all the aerobic activity a person could really need. One'd still have to do some strength training to safely perform lifts, or be lifted/dipped. It's great fun and great exercise. As a plus, the training at ballroom carries over to less structured dancing that is popular in nightclubs and raves. Even when you travel and don't speak any of the native language, you can still dance with someone. Lastly, I can assure you dancing is a great "pick up" tool as it's about the most non-sexual romantic activity out there:

• lots of body contact,
• the activity keeps the blood flowing hot and puts a flush on the face making you and her look your best
• dips, spins and lifts have a tremendous affect on her eyes and psyche
  • make them open wider, making it easier for you to see her pupils and look into her eyes (pupils respond involuntarily when a woman is attracted to you, pay attention to them)
  • makes her eyes roll up with excitement
  • builds her confidence in you as a strong man whom she can trust
• you and your date are smiling the whole time,
• mistakes and successes make for conversation (if you need that)
• what woman doesn't adore a strong, fit man who can takes her to the dance floor, gives her undivided attention, exhibits control and restraint while making her look and feel graceful, poised, fun loving and, quite frankly, like a star at the center of the universe?
• with all the fun she'll have had dancing with you, you don't need to ply her with liquor. Or is taking a sober lady home (or going to her place) for a nightcap a lost art?
• men who dance can be more selective in choosing among the women who are interested in them because good dancers are more often than not good lovers and good spouses.

I've often found saying no to dancing makes women try even harder, old reverse psych. Act disinterested and they try to prove you wrong and that you should want them. They start paying for drinks and taking you home faster than you can say poutine.
