However, the S55 engine is better than the Macan's or the 997. More responsive, more power and revs higher. You can't say that the F8X doesn't rev - it's got a higher redline than the Macan or the 997. M4: 7,800 vs 997: 7,500 vs Macan: 6,800. So when you say "The old Ms had engines that were great when they were high revving but in the turbo world, they don’t do it for me." Did you even get it out of Efficiency mode? The real point is that many Porsche fanatics have been disappointed with the 991 and some with the 992. I know of a couple in my home town that have cancelled their orders on new 992's and are looking for 997 GT3's. The 992 looks great, but it's no longer true to the 911's of old. |

S55 is a better motor than a macan ,I’ll give you that. I disagree that s55 is better than 997 , your argument was that the s55 made more power? Try driving a 997.2 and see ,that an f8x does not compare to a 911 period regardless ,regardless of the numbers on paper. For example s55 makes more power than 991.2 ,yet its slower by quite a margin. Why do you say a 992 is no longer a 911? |

I just think they are different cars. I could daily an M car but would prefer to keep dailying my Saab and add a 997 911 S. The whole no turbo thing is huge, so much more of a visceral experience.
I'd consider the previous M3 with a screaming V8 as a daily to run just one car but a) they are hideously expensive to run and b) the vert (my toy car must be a vert) weighs like 4,000 pounds. |

The s55 is mediocre at best. It pales in comparison to the turbo 911 engines or something like the MB M177. Redline also means very little given the s55 loses steam after 5500 rpm where the 911s pull hard to redline. It sounds awful (I had MPE and made the bad sound louder) and just isn’t fun to drive - too spikey and suspension was 3rd rate at best along with the overall quality and it was either numb steering or overly weighted fake feeling steering. My Macan GTS is just a nicer car, sounds better, is as responsive. I don’t need it to be the fastest car but it just is a nicer car to drive and be in. And the 911 and 718 are obviously just all around better cars in any regard to performance and handling. The 991 was Porsche pushing the 911 to GT which I’ve been saying for a while. I have not been disappointed in their cars and given sales anyone who can afford one hasn’t either. Journalists praise it to no end, even most so when it’s a GT but no one else builds anywhere near as cohesive and well put together, near perfect package at they do...in any of their cars. The 992 which is only the entry level is putting down supercar numbers with still relatively low HP ratings. Running 7:25 on the Ring with 444 hp is something no other manufacturer could pull off. And to think what the GTS, Turbo, Turbo S and GT cars will do. Porsche is at the top of the game and have been for a while. The 992 is still as close to roots as you get given the ever changing environment and need to evolve. Last edited by Funf6cyl; 04-26-2019 at 04:08 PM.. |

Real problem with the 992 - is the price for me, that is at least.
My wife went in to get a new badge for the Macan, as the original one broke, whilst washing it. Did you know that the badge is made out of crap very breakable plastic? Anyway, she sent me a photo of the new 4S - looks great, but it's $US 240k here, basically double what an M4 is over here. |

I was invited to a 992 unveiling event at a local Porsche dealer last autumn. Very nice evening, beautiful car.
Unfortunately, the 911 just keeps getting larger and more expensive with every generation. I'd definitely like to own one but am too young to even consider spending that much money on a car. Even used 911s are more than I'm willing to spend.

I like the 992, looks great (especially with the sports appearance package which makes the front end better looking) and I really like the new light-bar taillights that Porsche has been using. The inside is nice too, although the new gauge cluster is awkwardly blocked by the steering wheel, but thankfully there's still toggles/buttons compared to the Panamera and Cayenne. Excited to see the next GT3, I had a short drive in the 991.2 GT3, and it was simply excellent.
I'd personally get a Boxster/Cayman though since its lighter, smaller, cheaper (although still expensive), and more fun (especially since the Flat-6 will be returning). Annoyingly though I feel like Porsche is purposefully holding the Boxster/Cayman back to not step on the toes of their bread and butter 911. Haven't driven a 992 yet so can't really judge it (although I enjoyed the 991 so hopefully they just improved on that), but plan on test driving one after the pandemic and when more manuals arrive on dealer lots. |

The 911 is as we all know and can agree, a "Automotive Icon"!
My only gripe is the typical Porsche price gouging for what should be be standard equipment on a car in its price point. For example... The Base 911 is @ $100k. To get the nice goodies you would actually want would push it to @ $140k. |

Also another interesting fact: According to Porsche, they don't make more than 2 identical 911's a year.

Guards Red (indischrot) is the colour to have for a Porsche.
Centrelock single wheel nut? F1 style, need special tool for that and CC brakes standard on the S. Standard 911 Carrera is around half the price of TS about £82k TS without options is nearly £156k! and there are no discounts from Porsche dealers with waiting time.
