This thread has generated almost as many polarized comments as the thread about G80 grill expansion.
My take on the "Tokyo by Night" iDrive: wait and see. If BMW delivers unparalleled torque vectoring with the electric version of M vehicle, what's inside the cockpit will be a second priority. Last edited by cfm56d7b; 01-08-2025 at 03:20 PM.. |

Well, like a few others already said, iDrive 7 was peak. Hopefully my 2021 M340 will run strong and hold up for many years to come.
I considered a new one, however, I despise the fact that BMW took away the ability in Sport Individual to actually adjust the engine and transmission INDIVIDUALLY! Now it is just drivetrain. So fk’n lame… |

My gut is that cost is a big driver on this change. Smaller screen and no buttons with a projector is less expensive than the larger screen they are currently using. Definitely less expensive than older designs with real gauges and buttons in the interior.
I currently own an iX and have had the last few generations of M3's and M5's so understand the direction they are going. I actually like the iX interior, but this new vision isn't for me. At least not yet. |

Sounds like you've seen very very few modern interiors.

I have sat in most modern cars from the mid 2000s to today.
When I say worst interiors, I’m talking about build quality. I touched things on the x3 that straight felt like they were going to fall off the car. Things that you’re supposed to touch, like the door panels that have buttons on them. And when I say touch I mean like lightly touch and they are moving around, not even pulling or banging on them.

The thing is though, this design shows that BMW is pretty much the only brand in the world that is NOT leaning towards Tesla, trying something new.
Everybody else is doing what Tesla is doing. BMW is turning the whole front windscreen into a fully customizable head up display. Amazing idea, amazing tech, it's mind boggling how much hate it gets here. But also maybe it's not that surprising, this is the time we're living. People are sad, depressed, unhappy - so they hate everything new and glorifying junk from the past, junk from their happy years. It's exactly like saying '4K UltraHD Dolby Vision sucks, VHS is so much better. That analogue feel was so good!'

If it’s the same morons who developed the current and previous iterations of iDrive then it’s doomed from the start. More of the same that a monkey could have done better

I think you should probably read the article first. Or if you're only looking at the pictures, some prescription glasses could help. You don't even know what this idrive 10 is. Most haters don't even know what they're talking about.

"BMW Panoramic Vision – a Head-Up Display concept newly developed by BMW for projecting content – reflects visible information from A-pillar to A-pillar onto a black printed surface in the lower section of the windscreen. This information is visible to all occupants."
Ones a LCD screen and one's a projector? Yes, apples and oranges to some, tomato, tomato to others. |

I can't imagine putting any relavent information on the bottom of the windshield beyond the center point. Anything beyond that pulls the driver's vision to far from looking at the road or anything else. I presume all will have a HUD but then you run into the limitations of polarizations unless you diagonally polarize the screen. Right now my HUD is only clear when I'm wearing polarized glasses if I tilt my head about 30-40 degrees. As for the center touch screen? I don't like the buttons on the bottom because they seem less ergonomic than having them on the left. I think what I have now with my i4 is a pretty good mix of tactile and screen. I'm not a hater of technology. What I want is a good implementation that looks at how a person uses the interface, not what a designer thinks people do.

Is this the 2025 Tesla BUT they mistakenly used a BMW emblem. What the hell is going on with this company, every year a new Sh*t...
