Nissan, in the early 80's (and GM, but they didn't even return my calls). And you are spot on about the interview approach - probably worth it just for that life lesson. Truth is, no way I would have been bringing in the numbers they wanted, so I can't blame them.

You probably dodged a bullet anyway. Not sure if things were different in the 80s (who am I kidding... of course they were)... but Nissan dealerships have always been shitholes as long as I can remember.

Parts delivery for local O'Reilly parts store. Or that guy who mows the grass in the median of the freeway in the big air conditioned JD while jamming on tunes or watching TV.

Yeah but if I get it I'll only have to work a day every few weeks and get to travel all over the world for the races.

It's only a dream job until you do it. My dream job since I was a kid was to be an airshow pilot. After I left my career behind, it took a lot of work and dedication for about 8 years but I checked off being a aerobatic pilot competitor flew airshows. Got my seaplane, glider, and instrument rating as well.

I keep thinking since I do motorcycle track days, I think I'd also enjoy being a on-track coach for motorcycle cornering/road racing schools and track days.

You'd just have to put up with all the F1 drivers cussing you out for going too slow

I like it. Also, if I’m not qualified to drive the safety car, i can be the dude who sits in the passenger seat of the safety car. I have no idea what he does - it seems like nothing, which I’m very qualified for

Trouble is - every car salesman I have ever known, trades jobs every year or 2 because they want you SELLING. I'd say someone like you and I roll in at 8:15.....hit the shitter........have a donut......and then head to the lot - we'd be sent packing. LMAO

Maybe you could tell them - I only get paid when I sell a car - other than that I cost you zero. They might go for that, but car sales usually has a big push to perform.

But you could cabbage together a few cars and start your own lot - man it as often as you like! =)

Interestingly, the sales person that sold us our 2013 X5 35i in December of 2012 is the same guy that just took our order for a new X5. He remembered (or more likely had noted) just about everything about us including my wife being a musician, the kind of cars we've owned in the past, where we live, and what hobbies we enjoy. Now that I've just typed that it sounds a little creepy - but anywho, he's a great guy that's been in the sales gig at our dealer now for over 10 years.

Well thats the beauty of retirement... I'm not doing it for the money... im doing it for the experience. If it lasts a day and I hate it at least i can check it off my list.

I want to be a large resort golf cart shuttle driver somewhere nice by the beach with good weather. Just drive people around on a golf cart, chat it up, wait in the shade for my next group of guests. People love riding golf carts. It's just a huge convenience. I'll take tips too.

Well our world has taken a bit of a turn. Recently my wife decided to leave corporate America and run a non-profit that connects host families with low income people coming to Boston for medical care. We first heard of it 6 years ago via an NBC Nightly News feature, and as a result became a host household. Lester Holt just did a follow up story that aired tonight: https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news...y-137676357540

A shuttle driver sounds interesting but I'd want to be shuttling boats for owners to/from the Keys or the Bahamas. Buy a boat in Miami and need it in Annapolis - I'd do that shuttle.

Oh that sounds great too. I love being out in the water. I'd drive a fishing boat too, but I don't know if I want to wake up at 4am every morning!

Wanting not to work, I worked my buns off to retire at 45. After that it was travel, track cars, fooling around on a bunch of acreage in New England, extended road trips, and lots of hanging out. But work...no, that's not my idea of retirement.

Oh, wait – I did take a job a dozen years after retiring. I'd gotten bored, and a neighbor told me about a job he'd turned down because the small business owner was a jerk. The job was consignment coordinator for a successful firearms auctioneer. I saw myself having a ton of fun in that operation. My neighbor was right, and the job lasted two weeks. I got fired for showing initiative. My mistake, all the way around. That was a long time ago, and I'm unemployable at this point. Thank god.

Similar story here. Serial technology start-ups and the last one went public in 1997. By 1999 I was a stay at home dad and non-profit volunteer when I wasn't flying aerobatics and at the track. I've done some business development to help guys that used to work for me and also in the aviation field but none of that was a "job." I used to feel awkward when younger people asked me what I was up to these days and now I just say whatever I feel like from making sawdust to track days to adventure motorcycle rides. Life is too short. And as you said, I'm unemployable now anyway
