Will the old iphone be available still and not cost the extra $10/month? I dont think I will have 3G in my area any time soon so that is worthless for me.

I doubt it since the iphone is out of stock just about everywhere. There will be plenty of new and used 1st Gen iphones on ebay .

They generally are pretty good about keeping suppliers stocked but if you do the math on something like an iphone launch (or wii launch) it gets pretty ridiculous. Its like needing a 20 lane highway for rush hour and then at 3am a single dirt road will work, so we end up w/ something in between. |

^^Why would they limit supply on a product they are trying to gain market share with? That's like gillette limiting supplies of razor handles when they are trying to sell razor cartridges.

Actually I did hear something about Apple running out of iPhones. But they stopped producing more. I believe the reason for this is that they needed time to produce new iPhones so when it came time for the release, they had a lot. Maybe they thought they had enough in reserve to last until the launch of the new.

Not to seem too geeky, but I can imagine this Iphone will be a HUGE hit. I may have to get to the store a night before and camp out for this sucker. Anyone know how many are going to the retail stores? I'm hoping for 100+ a store. Or am I asking too much?

Dont mean to hi-jack, but I run an AT&T franchise, the new iphone is pretty nice, and it B.A. by all means, but if you want an AWESOME phone, and dont mind spending some extra dough (300 bucks) on top of the iphones regular price, check out:
HTC Diamond. That will be the phone I am getting shortly. End of story. You can overclock that sucker to over 650mhz, and the accelerometer technology is insane. The opera browser is beautiful, and the system has been out a long time, so they have worked out nearly all of the bugs. |

If you don't care about 3G and GPS the old iPhone is still a great phone. Once you add the new firmware and can make use of the tons of programs that are going to be coming out it's going to be even better. There's going to thousands of these things flooding the eBay market soon. In fact, I'll even sell you mine! |

The point about MMS is very interesting. Not only are there features like that missing, but there's a lot of quirks that I find with many of the built in applications on the iPhone. For example, I love the way they thread text messages, but if you send a message to multiple people you start a new thread. Then when either of those people respond, their responses get put in a different thread (one thread per person). It's quite retarded and you can't follow your conversations at all. Since Apple is horrendous at making updates it's quite likely that most, if not all, of the built in apps will be rewritten by outside developers who will fix these issues by replacing the entire app since they don't have the source code of the built-in app to tweak. |

You don't need to wait for the App store to open. Jailbreak your phone, there is already a video recorder application and an MMS application out there (as well as hundreds more).

And the hundreds of jailbroken apps are typically incredibly unpolished. I never jailbroke mine because there were almost no programs out there that I thought would be useful. The app store will give a real framework to use as well as putting thousands of legitimate companies on the task of creating apps. Facebook, eBay, Newsgator, AOL, and many more will all have real native apps that aren't available now because they don't want to develop for a hacked platform. |

I don't think there can be a 3rd part mms app as everything goes to the sms app built into the firmware, unless apple puts some hooks in there.
I think it is stupid that you have a phone with a built in camera and cant send pictures. probably an at&t request to limit bandwidth. |

The wait seems to be unbearable... This new company called MetroPcs sucks!! Most of my friends don't EVER get my text messages and the internet is piss slow. I can't wait to gladly pay $70 a month for a good service instead of $55.78 for some bull$h!t.
