If this is a going to be an angle grinder minus a guard story, I'm all ears. I've seen many of these accidents.
I think just about every dude has an angle grinder story, just like they have a tequila story. It's sort of a right of passage into manhood thing.

Mine involved a 7 inch angle grinder with a bad trigger so I had ziptied the trigger to be on all the time, with no way to turn it off if I dropped it, other than unplugging it. I was taking rust out of the bed of a pickup with one of those abrasive dipped nylon scrub pads. I was wearing shorts. I dropped the grinder. There was about 10 seconds of what must have been the funniest scene to watch as the grinder on full blast bounced around inside the bed of the truck while I tried hopelessly to scramble out of there with the cord wrapped all around my legs. Total disaster. The grinder shot over and caught my ankle. Right through my sock and into the thin skin on that bony bump on the outside of the ankle joint. Ouch. I was 17 and learned some lessons that day about tools, safety, and where not to have all your skin scrubbed off.

Yowza!!! My angle grinder story didn't result in much damage but I did have a grinding wheel break on me while cutting some angle iron. A couple of the smaller pieces got my forearm and hands but I was lucky. I worked with a guy who took a broken shard (about half) of a grinding wheel to the face. It was lodged just under his right eye in his cheek and had to be surgically removed. Sadly, every man I know that owns an angle grinder, the first thing we do is remove the guard. Just one of those tools that the practicality of the safe guarding and the practicality of use simply do not coincide.

Same with the table saw. I mean come on. How
Many dudes here actually have their blade guard on their saw?! My old cabinet shop boss swore the blade guards on table saws were dangerous as they could cause binding. Also you can't watch your cut to make sure the work isn't wandering off the fence. Granted, he cut three fingers off in front of me and also swore seatbelts were dangerous so in retrospect maybe he wasn't the authority on personal safety!

That's crazy! Although I agree, I would much rather see my blade making the cut to ensure it isn't wandering I'm in a position at work to where I have to ensure proper safe guarding to machines and equipment. Kinda hard to practice what you preach sometimes.

When I was 4 my father cut his middle finger on his left hand almost completely off making a picture frame on a table saw. The doc at the ER tried to save the finger by sewing it back on. The end result was that for the rest of his life he couldn't move his finger, it was hard as a rock, a different color and cold as ice. Anytime that he made a fist, inadvertently he was flipping you off. Kinda funny but if you said something about it or snickered about it, he would drive it into your chest like a nail.....that shit hurt. It was always off-putting if you ever had to touch that thing. It was much like an ///M emblem on a 328i it was just for show.

There needs to be a "Man-Story/Accident/Scar Story" thread on here.

Melted my glove to my hand with cut off wheel was scared to look, just a burn didnt lose anything vital. Also lit my sweatshirt on fire with same angle grinder just as wife opened garage coming home, first thing she sees is me on fire then realizing and putting myself out.

Hmmm.....I cannot imagine why it wouldn't keep altitude when the tanks are empty. Perhaps it would have something to do with the engines no longer running?

I swear the news is trying to make us all dumber.
