An Experience of a Lifetime
Hey everyone! My name is Adyan R, and I'm 15 years old. I'm a huge BMW enthusiast like you all (in fact, I'm the one who got the family into modding haha ). As you can see in my sig, we (my parents) have a modified BMW 550i GT, and I've been on this forum a while. However, besides cars, I recently seized the opportunity to do something I've never done before, and I wanted to share it with you all.
On July 4th, two friends, Yixuan and Race, and I will be flying out to China. From there we will be visiting two towns in Huining, a part of the Gansu province in China. These areas are some of the most poverty-stricken places in China, yet they are known to produce some of the most intelligent kids in the country. We will be assisting in teaching middle & high school kids English in two different schools. This is unlike most trips, since we'll actually be toughing it out and living with the kids in their paltry conditions, rather than teaching for a few hours and returning to a nice comfy room in a fancy hotel. We will go from the cushy comfortable life of America to the brutal lifestyle of the people of Huining. Limited electricity, scare resources, and little to no running water. We will also be working with world famous director Wang Yang (with Cnex). He has produced a few documentaries, including the award-winning China Gate, which depicts the struggles of the students of Huining, whom will be actually working with in China. Mr. Yang has been inspired by our journey to create a sequel to China Gate, in which we will also be featured as we live the lives of fellow Huining kids. All in all this in an amazing adventure, and I want to help raise awareness for these kids. Therefore, I created my own Facebook page, where I will try to keep you all updated to the best of my ability. Yixuan, Race, and I would appreciate if you take just a minute of your time to click the link below and visit the page, and maybe give it a like or so. It helps not only bring our trip to light, but also show how some of the smartest kids come from places you'd never expect, and their struggle to do so in the process. Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this, and I hope you enjoy the page. www.facebook.com/HuiningGate or search for Huining Gate - 会宁县的门 : The Experience of a Lifetime on Facebook.

Your parents did a really good job with you. If I had FB, I would gladly do the FB thing for this.
Now, someone will get on your face for the age because we are idiots, but most of us never do anything else but bitch, moan and complain anyway, so take it as a compliment. You have years to play with these, I'm happy to see new pups being interested something else than computer games for once. You have my approval.

Question. Is this your parents account and they let you use it for this thread only?
My buddies and I always joke that all the BMW fanboi review threads on the forums are from a bunch of 15 year olds who have never driven any other cars and I think they may be right..? |

Unlike some of the immature users on here who may be teenagers, I have yet to see one actually show his/her real age, I am not your typical "teen fanboy." I respect everyone's opinion, and although BMWs are some of my favorite cars, I do enjoy other models from other manufacturers as well and don't really have much of a bias. However, yes, this is my account. I hope this answers your question.

He loves cars, mods, takes care, and is learning because of this forum. STFU and be old and happy with it. He gets to experience all the important memories you and I have long forgotten, and now he wants us to support a worthy project, and you pick on his age? Yes, age makes us clearly better. Cheers, Lups.

MY thoughts exactly. It's a rarity to see one of his kind, and we really need to step up as adults to understand that he is one of us, a car geek, but unlike many of us, he has a heart.

Yes, I read that too, and I had my hat off to him. A rarity in a forum like this, and for that alone he should be respected as one.

When I was 15, I cared about 1 thing and 1 thing only. I was literally dripping man sauce every 5 seconds with all the quickly developing females at school. Props to you for not just thinking about your man wang 24/7 at that age.

Looks like he is qualified to be doing this type of work.
Best of luck with your adventures!!! My fiance did something similar but instead of teaching english, she taught basic hygene and medicine in Peru. She lived in the rainforest and slums for 3 months and like you, didn't go back to a cozy hotel. She still speaks about this experience 5+ years later and I can tell that it really changed her outlook on life. Soak up the experience and enjoy, you are doing a great thing. |
