Jet Ski Owners
Hey Bimmerpost,
Im looking to buy a couple of Jet Skis. Wanted to see what owners here have, how they have been running. If there is a particular brand they prefer. Whats the maintenance like? How often do you have to have it inspected? I really like the Sea Doo's. I would like the RXT 260 but might be a little to fast since it will be my first one. Thanks in advanced

I'm actually in the market for one. Seadoo has a great line. Now I have to convince the wife to install a trailer hitch on her car. My Z4 certainly can't tow them.

I live in South Florida where owning a boat/jetski is almost mandatory Lol. I have a $6K budget so I'll have to search around for a well maintained used model.

You'll find posts praising/bashing any particular brand, they've all got good and bad. Generally speaking, if you simply take good care of a ski, good oil, proper gas and the minimal maintenance required you can easily get 300-500 hours out of one. Salt water adds a challenge, but a good flush/wash negates that too.
Parts and repairs are pricey when needed however, best to find a good indy after out of warranty. The one surprise to me when I was looking to come out or the dark ages and go from my 2-cycle Sea Doo to a newer model with all the bells and whistles was supercharger maintenance. Yes, maintenance. Apparently every 100 or 200 hours you need to rebuild these with new bearings or risk a engine killing failure. Not a big deal if you pull the s/c and send it to a rebuild shop for $2-300, but having a dealer do it is going to run 2 or 3 times that. Still, it is a HUGE pile of fun and as someone said the sense of speed is pronounced. You would love it.....

I love the looks of the new Sea Doo's. Just look like you are out there to own the water. Very sleek.
If anyone is interested in a Standup/Sitdown, Sea Doo has a 3Di that is pretty awesome. Learning curve is very small and almost anyone can learn to ride it as a stand up. It also has a seat that folds out from the center if you don't feel like standing. |

The new seadoos are nice because they start in neutral, unlike yamahas, who start in drive. But, if you're looking for cruising and speed, i would suggest yamaha. I've had yamahas for the past 7 years and they are awesome. Currently rocking the FX Cruiser SVHO & the FZS. Awesome rides. But i must admit, the seadoos do look a little better, even though the yamahas do look good as well!
