Need a place to stay...
Hey all,
Im planning to come back to the east coast for 4 days. I need to see the colleges that i applied to in person before i actually accept any. Ive been looking at flights and hotel packages, but wow..its so expensive. The best i could come up with was $781 in a 3 star hotel in Newark. Does anyone know of something better?

Hi Bellas, I have a friend in Queens and a girlfriend(Cuban) in Harlem(first block) next to Central Park. I live a few thousand kilometres away but you never know
I e-mail them tomorrow for you. Well she is not my 'girlfriend', she was my uncles girlfriend for a while etc etc... But you know what I mean, I hope.... |

Actually, i checked hotwire (even tho i checked them already) and found the same hotel and flight for $593!.. so i chose that one. Im saving $194, so im pretty excited. The reason why im flying into Newark, is cause the hotels in NYC are too much. And since i dont have transportation, i needed to stay somewhere close to the airport. But i have it figured it out

Did any east coast colleges even gave you an offer of acceptance?
I recommend you don't travel there unless you get an offer...otherwise, you're just bloating up a false hope and wasting your time/expenses. |

Well, if you plan on moving anyway, that's cool. But nothing hurts more than touring a campus that ineluctably dismisses you. You can always go during 3-4 day weekends.
The good thing about PhD programs (what I'm doing) is that THEY pay for your airfare, food, hotel, and ground travel expenses. Going to Yeshiva in the Bronx, NY in a couple weeks. I was pleasantly surprised that there is actually a "good" side of the Bronx, unlike how the movies typically make it out to be. |

Ive been working and going to school there for almost a decade and nothing has happened. especially in the university heights area its a pretty safe area. That being said, most students dont live there, but in the surrounding cities and towns. I live about 20 minutes from there. i would recommend renting a car when you are visiting cause NJ Transit is not the greatest.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...18048,0.048409 This motel is about a block away from the enterance of the Holland Tunnel [takes you directly to downtown NYC]. It's really safe becasue there are cops around 24/7. There is a mall a couple of blocks away too. If you dont want to rent a car, then the PATH train [runs 24/7] station is about a 10 min walk away and can take your directly to downtown/midtown. Also, the motel is not that expensive. How do I know all this? Well, I live about 5 blocks away. Lemme know if you need more details.

bella, i agree! dont blow your money on a nice hotel. just stay in one thats decent and isnt infested with roaches etc. save your money for the things that matter: SHOPPING.
new york is awesome for shopping! and sometimes you can get stuff that's realll for cheap ebcause people steal them. i bought a tiffanys bracelt for 50$ from this guy and went to go get it checked afterwards and it was real. i love the black market! i dont suggest you do that.. but NY is definitely awesome for shopping!! ohh i loveee neww york! last time i was there, i took a carriage ride around the city and ate chestnutsssss eeeh so beautiful there |

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Forget that NYC is the financial capital of the world...they're the bootlegers' capital of the world! I bought myself a genuine Rolax watch in NYC for around $15.00. Great bargains! |
