Anyone considered a Corvette when shopping for your 335i?

I was just reading up about the new '08 vette on Car and Driver magazine website and was thinking, for about the same price of a 335i you can get a brand new 436hp '08 Vette. A true sports car with performance# of exotic cars. I know it's a Chevy. But you just can't ignore the performance #s. It can beat a 997 Turbo and a R8 on the track:

436HP/428ft-lb tq
0-60 4.0 secs
1/4 mile: 12.4 @116mph

http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtest...-corvette.html

As with any domestic cars, you can get a pretty deep discount from the list price. You can get a brand new well equiped Z51 vette for around $45k. If I didn't need a rear seat I'd seriously consider one instead of a 335i. What do you guy's think? Did you consider a Vette when you were shopping for your 335i?

Let's keep this discussion clean and please move along if you are going to just bash the Vette just because it's an American made car.

yes, I was one of them...was going something exactly opposite then my 335icoupe.

I was thinking of buying a 08 Velocity Yellow C6 Corvette. Loved the body. Didnt like all the plastic. Regardless, other than driving it to the tracks, I could not imagine myself driving it longer than 10mins. A honda civic has better interior build than the corvette.

Also considered a Porsche Cayman S. The price on the cayman wasnt rubbing me the proper way.

I know what you're saying about not bashing a car just because it's American, but the 'vette does have that 'not quite finished' feel that's so typical of domestic cars. I haven't driven the very latest 436 hp version, but the '06 I drove extensively felt really unsettled on uneven surfaces, had the terrible navigation / audio system and generally felt cheap inside. It felt like they got about eight tenths of the way there and stopped because the money ran out.

That said, it was an unbelievably fun car to blast around in and the 400 hp engine with the six-speed auto felt insanely powerful, so I can only imagine how quick the new model feels with a manual. On smooth roads the handling is excellent and you can cruise for hours at high speeds with zero fatigue. It's really a question of whether you want to sacrifice the extra seats, 'perceived quality' and somewhat more sophisticated image of the BMW for the added fun factor.

I could never drive a vette. Always thought of the car as a mid.life.crisis car. . . A Vert Vette you see a balding 45yr old driving. Plus i'm not a fan of the 2 seater. And i love my BMW free scheduled service.

Too fast, too much power.

Then again I did order an M3, so maybe I'm just full of it.

It's not all about quarter mile times. You can make a car go a LOT faster than 12.4 in the 1/4 mile for less than $45-50K. Sorry, I know it's cliche, but there's a status and just something about the 335i that you aren't going to get with a C6 (Z06 is a different story).

If you don't care about the Chevy name, only having 2 seats and no trunk, and don't mind being stereotyped by driving one, there's really no new car out there that gives you more bang for the buck.

But those are a lot of compromises you have to assume, and I wasn't willing to do that...

The Corvette has a pretty decent trunk. In fact I think it's bigger than the E92's.

Since when was a 3 series BMW a "status" car? Everyone and their mom has one.

Yeah I was seriously stuck between the E92 and a C6. The E92 just seemed a better fit for me. I have a lot of respect for the C6 though. Specially the LS3 motored ones. The guys that bash the car here don't know enough about it.

Yes, checked out 'Vette 'vert, drove a couple. Great car, but the dealerships are simply awful and that was a deal-breaker.

How about both?

I will be trading in my 05 Evo for a 2009 C6 Z51 (probably next year) and my wife is getting a 335 Ci right after summer.

Vettes aren't Miatas. As a matter of fact, they have a bigger trunk than your E92

Not enough leg room.

I'd prefer a 1973 2002tii to a new Corvette that I can't drive.

i tried to buy 07 corvette c06 before i get my bmw 335i. the price was too high of a payment for me. i did not want to pay over 1000 per month. i decided to get bmw instead.
