It pains me to say it but maybe on acceleration the two cars are evenly matched.

But from what I read on these pages it does seem to me that the RS6 is convincingly the better car and it's as much down to the fact that it's four wheel drive.

Excuse me T-Bone while I ...............

HKS786,

Man I could kiss you .............. opps that my Audi behavior coming out in me.

The article wasn't that inspiring. I'm hoping for a more RS4like performance out of the saloon, and that's generally been the case comparing the wagons to the sedans. I'd be really interested to see quarter miles and the infamous 60-130 as well.

If I had been a hardcore BMW fans for many a year and not just someone just coming to the brand I would spitting daggers at the guy who wrote this review because it's so damming towards the M5 abilities and especially the SMG3 gearbox. I know I have spoke at many lengths on the subject of modes that the gearbox has but on read this review it looks like not one mode could be found to redeem it as anything other than useless. Shocking to have an automatic being better at everything than a true semi-auto manual, truly shocking.

I haven't tried an Avant version of the RS4 to know the differences between it and the saloon but from what I have just read it looks like all of the RS6's problems originate from it's weight. I suppose you can't expect an increase of 400kgs to go by unnoticed.

My God, I just noticed, it Chris Harris who wrote this, the very guy who only some weeks back took delivery of his new white M3v8. For him to write something so damming towards the M5 means that the RS6 regardless of his words is in fact much better than expected.

Ohh yeahhh. I quite liked the review and it was very good to see that the RS6 came out on top! I did expect to see the RS6 "feel" faster than the M5 especially in acceleration, but lets wait for more reviews.

Very true comment, it looks like this time BMW are stuck for an answer.

It's remarkably quiet on this particular thread, I wonder why.

In terms of regular car manufacturers, I'm proud that Audi has come close if not equal.

Kudos for both sides of the party. Please, no more hate.

I really wish they made an RS6 sedan. There's something that I don't quite like about the estate. It just looks so...cumbersome. Performance wise, I think they hit the nail right on the head for a wagon. It'd definitely be the better choice for a more accessible car in everyday situations, but if it was actually me that was choosing, I'd take a RWD hooligan of a sedan.

Power is for bragging rights. I wouldn't care if I was to lose to some other car on the streets at ultra-illegal speed limits in an M5. Really, it's all about the ego. I'd much rather have a car that can put a smile on my face at far more accessible and slightly less illegal speeds. That's why I prefer RWD. That's why I don't want a tank of a car. Still, this Audi is a masterpiece in nearly every single manner. It just isn't my cup of tea.

I'm glad that Audi continues to improve. It just means better things for us: the consumers.

I doubt that will ever happen but there is a chance that in the future as Audi continue to try and move the weight further to the rear and even out the weight between the axles that their Quattro system may adopt an even more rearward bias than it currently has.

I would reckon if they get to BMW's 50/50 weight balance then you might just see a Quattro system with a 25/75% split to the rear.

Who really knows what the future holds.
