Invited On Pro Shoot

I'm excited about my shoot scheduled for this afternoon. Lance Krueger, freelance photographer with 5 cover shots on Field & Stream in the last 12-mos., invited me to join him this p.m. to shoot wild turkey (I said shoot, not drink) down near Castle Rock, Colorado.

I met Lance last fall at my normal shooting venue, Cherry Creek State Park, Colorado, and offered some advice about where to shoot our bucks. He's working on a project to shoot all the sub-species of American wild turkey (there or six or eight) and I suggested some places around here to try. He found a great flock, with some huge Toms, at one of my suggested sites. He sent me a picture last night of one of the Toms and the light is better today.

He's got decoys, calls, etc. so the odds are as good as possible.

Anyway, I'm so excited that I wanted to share.

Dave

Awesome! I allow visitors sometimes as well. Sometimes it's fun sometimes it's a horrible idea.

It was almost perfect. We had plenty of turkey, but, after a day of cloudless sky, right before sunset, the clouds came out. Still, it was incredible.

He used decoys and calls and the turkey came running. The most effect decoys were a receptive hen (ready to mate) with a Jake (immature male) standing behind her, as if he were going to mate. The big Toms took great offense and beat the crap out of the Jake decoy.
