Back To School 2016! (proud parents thread)

I know I'm not the only "proud papa" around here.

Thought I'd share this photo from today of my sons 1st day of school: 5th & 3rd grade. They are growing too fast for me...

But I am blessed! And they keep me motivated and driven. These particular years where they constantly want hugs and we play outdoors, PS4, XBOX, etc is just soooo special for me as a dad.

I'm on my last days to get the Bug running/smogged so my youngest one can start his senior year on the 30th with a car.

I have friends who started on kiddos way before me and have kids in High School. Entirely different ball game in the Teens! I remember my teen tears like it was yesterday! First car... EPIC times.

I do too, but I recall my sense of direction to have been WAY better than the kid's. And I can't tell north from noses when my dad throws those directions at me. I guess I'm more like a cow; once I've been there I can get back home.

Another thing I am sure you will agree with me on Wade... Being a Teen or even a parent today, is more challenging than when you or I were teens. Far more distractions and less simplistic. Not making excuses. Because if you're a parent... You must parent!

1st day of HS at Independence High in Frisco. And it scares me to read about the 19 year old Sigma Nu who died at A & M.......he went to Heritage (like my older twins), died of opioid overdose while partying with fraternity brothers.

One graduated and working in DC.

One going to be a Junior in HS.

I have one going to be a freshman at James Madison University...

I saw that story. Very unfortunate. My wife and I discuss these topics now even though our boys are years away from High School. You have to prepare and instill strong values and life principles at a young age. Like what was done for me. In high school, I smoked weed like Cheech and Chong! I even did blow for a minute. But at the age of 20,i left all of that shit alone. I remembered my upbringing and value system. I thank God that I "listened".

I said that to say this... Sure I experimented, within reason. But I came to realize that getting high was not for me and that if anything, it would cause an early demise. Here I am 26yrs later, and never once been tempted to light up ever again.
