How about a "Don't Appreciate" button?
So we have an "appreciate" button, but what about a button for posts we don't appreciate?
Just a thought! |

Just ban the poster, and then he will be banned for all eternity, or until that poster rebuts you with a ban, and then you will both be in banishment together. And for all eternity.

So many folks would have negative rep points it'd be laughable.

I've seen sites with that and it just leads to pissing contests.

Actually the whole appreciation system looks doubtful: people often appreciate posts that appear meaningless (just expecting a return, perhaps?) and you can't tell helpful points from entertaining, at the very least. Thus no practical meaning of the points, just vanity (the idea behind it is obviously to motivate people seeking appreciation to be more active). |

There was a BMW forum I was on that had a great reputation system. Members would + or - your post based on helpfulness, accuracy, etc and you'd end up with a positive or negative rep (green or red rep points). Ultimately it would help users identify who were the qualified members and who were the post whores and tools. The system worked. I Just don't see the point of having a + rep option if you can't also have the option of a - rep. It may cause the doofus posters to think twice before whoring it up.

Introduction of points war would make it uncomfortable to be here. You can ignore those you don't like and let others decide for themselves.
There are forum rules, incidentally. And there is a "Post Reporting and Account Rules" section containing rules #1("Respect") and #3("Disagree, don't attack.") in particular. |

I think it would be good--then I could use that when Lups doesn't like my car.
